Hey guys, I got a DirectTV digtal analog converter box(or whatever they are) ( hey was cheap!) from the resale shop, I was wondering if I could use it to potentally get "free" tv in my second room of the house, I already rewired the tv service's signal back to my house's coax splitter. I know the box needs a "Access" card for it to be used, but does anybody know if its possible for it to be used on AT&T U-verse? The box is a Hughes Silver Edition.

No. DirecTV and U-verse are totally different animals.

The only way to watch U-Verse on another TV is to call AT&T and get another box installed. If you signed up before February 2008, you get up to 3 boxes free. After that date, it costs an additional $5/mo.

U-Verse is a 2-way IPTV service based on Internet protocols such as TCP, IP, UDP, DHCP, etc.

DirecTV uses basically 1-way, DSS technology, with a possible dial-up return path for ordering PPV and stuff.

Did you take their signal before or after their converter box? If after, then the analog video/audio signal should be available at any coax outlet in your house, direct to a TV (pardon the pun). All you need now is a remote-control repeater sitting in front of your cable box, so you can change channels from the other room.

If before, then uh, don't even know if that would work at all.

Before the box, wait a second............

What I think I could do is split the output from the converter box and send that signal to the other box. I shall try this, tonight.

Think. The output from the first converter box goes into .... a TV, right?

So if you manage to re-route it to another outlet, you should plug it into ....

the internet router converts/splits the signal one for internet/wireless the other for tv via ethernet. So I think, if I get the signal that is sent to the tv box...
