Unable to unstuff Adobe Photoshop 1.0

Unable to unstuff Adobe Photoshop 1.0 68k 9 posts Nov 16, 2008 — Nov 18, 2008
If I try to unstuff with Stuffit and get the message:

Code:
Sorry, a system error happened. «Stuffit Expander address error.»
The Stuffit version I am using is 4.0.1.

This is the file I am trying to expand.

Any idea of what is going on? Google did not help on this very much... :'(

Thanks for a quick reply...

Edit: there is another Photoshop 1.0. version that I am trying to uncompress. Stuffit 4.0.1 yields the same error.

The file is this.

Two guesses as to what the problem is:

(1) The file is corrupt

OR

(2) While Photoshop 1.0 is an old app, the Stuffit archive might have been created by someone more recently, using Stuffit 5 or later. Stuffit 4 will not open some .sit files created with later versions of Stuffit.

Try Googling - or searching other threads here - for links to Stuffit Expander 5 (or Aladdin Expander 5, as it's also called). It's the last version that will run on 68k Macs, and it is usually able to open all .sit files.

Good luck!

---Is it supposed to run even on 68000 Macintosh Classic?

Edit: According to this, it is not. So another option will have to be researched.... :-/ :-/

Are you sure both files aren't really the same file, just obtained from two different sources? I don't know where you got them, but many old files like that on the internet all ultimately come from the same original source.

Oops, didn't know the Classic in your sig was your only Mac. That does complicate things. You may be out of luck on this.

Don't sweat it, I have PhotoShop 1.0.7 on a disk image, I can upload it to my server. I grabbed it back when abandonedabw.com was up.

RIP: abandonedabw.com... :'(

Okay, it's up: http://mrmacplus.gryphonclaw.net/downloads

snag Backdrop and Director if you want to. :)

edit 2: Also, It should be high up on your priority list to get a bridge mac. Back in July after I got my Mac Plus I had quite some difficulty getting files back and forth. Get a early PowerMac or something, new enough to get files back and forth to easily, but old enough to transfer files with your Classic.

I downloaded it succesfully, but it is a 1,5 mb, so I did this

Code:
dd if=archivo.image of=/dev/fda0 bs=84 skip=1
in order to copy it onto a floppy to later tranfer to the Classic.

This is what it shows the Classic when I insert the disk.

So, how do I transfer this 1,474 kb file on to a 1,448 kb high density 3,5" disk?

Thanks.

yes, good point. or get an emulator! i am very satisfied with basiliskII and sheepshaver. while basiliskII is better in reading from and writing to macintosh-floppies and is more versatile in reading mac-cds, i use sheepshaver for emailing and most other tasks.

sheepshaver forum is here:

Well it unstuffed for me successfully. PM me if you want to me to send it to you unstuffed.

Hmm, I don't know. It is, however a working image. A good way to solve this entire delimma is to find another way to transfer images, say, zip disks? Also, I second an emulator, mount my image in an emulator and copy only the files you do need (the image has some other things, like a plugin or two) and use your new disk image.
