There are alot of things people can do to get banned, most usually it's either repeated use of foul language (warnings are always given prior to kicks and bans, some users ignore them), harassment in channel (which leads to harassment in PM which is a big no-no), and constantly starting fights in the channel.
I don't think anyone has been banned in a while, though at least once or twice a week someone gets kicked for foul language.

That is false. I used the word "bastard" in IRC once and was kicked without warning. Sure made me feel welcome there. Not to mention that the "kick" just wastes everyone's time when all you have to do is join again.
Imo, the kick is a warning. it shows that the op(s) in charge are actually going to do something about you if you continue.

Does not matter, you do not make the rules. Well, it's unfortunate that you were kicked without warning, but it's similarly unfortunate that innocent people get thrown in jail. Similarly, I don't necessarially agree with the "family friendly" policy 100%, but guess what - as MacJunky said - it's not my channel, so I don't get to make up the rules, I get to follow the ones that other people have made.
At least, Mike, you've take the high road of just staying out of the channel. Some people like to sit in there and make a fuss about how they don't agree with the rules and why they should be changed and so on. It's rather annoying.
