Awesome! The adaptor will arrive today or maybe tommorow according to the USPS tracking thingy

You might be able to do the hack install on a OS 8 floppy disk set, but it'll take several times as long.

Wow... i didnt know floppies were so slow...

Formatting...

Verifing format...

Re-Verifying format...

500kbps slow? Sheesh, back in my day.....

formatting a floppy took 10 minutes! like... 10kbps slow.

512kbps isnt slow...

OK... i'm really not looking foreword to all of those disk swaps. would it be possible to install from my iMac via a network?

Network installs work for most classic macs. As long as you can boot with media that has appleshare client and network drivers, and your server has the files in the appriopriate layout.

Would a system 7.5 Network Access Disk work? i'm dd-ing one now.

Yeah, it will. You'll want to make sure you've got the correct drivers for your ethernet card on it however.

i can select EtherTalk and the activity LED blinks a bunch. does it have the right drivers?

I can't tell from the other side of the world...can you access the iMac from the LCIII?

the imac is running OS X, and i have no keyboard.

i could put Key Caps on a floppy....

Or you could just buy/find a keyboard. ;) Head onto your local Freecycle and ask for an old ADB keyboard.

Yes, yes, you could. ;)

Screw the keyboard - Timbuktu it. }:)

OK... i have OS 9.2.2 running on my imac. how can i get the iMac to appear in the chooser of the LC III, or connect to the iMac? I am running the 7.5 Network Access Disk.

Make sure you have the appropriate network extension installed!

Since your Ethernet card is an Apple one, you just need the Apple Ethernet LC extension which can be found here.

Um... the ethernet card needs no extra drivers! It saw my iMac in the chooser, but doesn't recognise that i enabled guest login, as i have no ADB keyboard i can't connect.

Well, it can do simple stuff like ping to the iMac IIRC w/o extensions, but you need the network extension for full functionality AFAIK.

Hmmm... i have literaly <4kb left on my boot disk.

How long does file sharing usualy take to startup on OS 9?

Yup. but the floppy has no unnecisary stuff!

Just try setting up file sharing on the hard drive then.

file sharing won't start up. it has been sitting at the "File sharing is starting up..." screen for 15 minutes.

this is a clean OS 9 install.

nevermind. it started up finaly

Wait, so does the Macintosh LC III work fine now? :O

nope. no os on it yet.

does the hard drive appear on the desktop as recognized?
