Floppy Disk Drive Emulators
Anybody have any experience with these FDD emulators? Seems like the ideal solution for vintage, networked challenged compact Macs. Manage your disk images on OS X, copy them to a USB flash drive, insert it into an FDD emulator and switch between disks as requested by the Mac. The fact that none of the vendors mentioned in the article publish prices, leads me to believe that this is not a particularly affordable solution. Perhaps in the not too distant future?
It looks good....but it'd be virtually impossible to get it to work on a Mac, unless you created a specialised version. As for prices.....
Sounds like it'd probably be cheaper, not to mention a lot easier and better to use a SCSI -> IDE and IDE -> CompactFlash adaptor. The FDD Emulators go from approximately 275 USD to 1,100 USD and the cost could be more expensive depending on the added options.
Except that the network challenged Macs are also often SCSI challenged.
If you are running 128k without swapping a stack of 400k floppies you aren't living the dream!
