I mentioned this conquest earlier, but it turns out that I got some more stuff along with everything else.

1: PowerBook 180c

Dead HD (I have a spare); came with system disks and AC adapter and is in perfect condition.

2: PowerBook 1400cs/117 (upgraded to a 133)

Came with bookcover, floppy and CD drives, and a AC adapter. Great working condition.

3: PowerBook 520c

Dead.

4: PowerBook 170

Dead, in mint condition.

5: PowerBook 160

Working condition w/HD and RAM; however, it has a wonky screen.

Got everything for $50 shipped!

Chances are that PB170 has a poorly-seated CPU daughtercard; reseating it (or shimming it slightly to enable a better fit) usually gives it life. Either that, or pull the battery and leave it plugged in for a few hours before you try starting it up.

Great finds. See if you can get a G3 for the 1400 -- it makes it a totally different animal. Although my 1400+G3/333 still feels slower than my 300MHz blueberryBook, it still runs rings around its former 117MHz self. The problem is the poor RAM ceiling and the slow bus. But hey, new wine, old wineskins, etc.

I need to exercise my 540c a little more. It's getting flabby. :I

Thanks Byrd for the valuable advice! I didn't know about the possibility of the CPU card becoming unseated; I thought it would stay a tight fit.

And I'm actually intending for the PB 1400cs/133 as a gift to a friend who needs to run Classic programs which won't work on her Lombard. I've looked for one though before; they are pretty hard to find at a cheap price.

AFAIK OS X.

She just needs to run apps that won't run in Classic. I gave her my PB 170 (the one I have now), but after a while, I decided that I really want it back, and she could appreciate the PB 1400cs more, since the 170 still has several viruses (nVIR A, MDEF, other crap) that have proved a pain in the rear end to remove due to clogging the desktop file almost immediately.

Would they run in SheepShaver, perhaps? It just seems unfortunate to have to run between two laptops ...

Pull the HD, stick it in a PC and reformat.

Viruses = gone.

Unless it takes a SCSI HD. Lowendmac was not to clear on this.

The PB 170's HD is actually a 1 GB IDE HD connected to a IDE-SCSI bridge.

Thanks! I actually bought that PB 170 (different than the one in this conquest) from Goodwill for $5; one of the best conquests I've had. I just need to wipe the drive because of the random viruses on it, and I'll be set.
