Request: Software for HyperDrive
I'm trying to get a HyperDrive 20 to work. The drive sits in a Mac Plus and seems to physically dead, as the logic board on the drive is working, but the drive doesn't spin up. I downloaded the HyperDrive Driver v3r2 from Mac Driver Museum, but an attempt to access the drive using the DA "Drawers" results in an error: "The hard disk will not realign. Please turn it off, then on again. If the problem persists, please contact your HyperDrive dealer".
There's no HyperDrive dealer around and at the moment I don't want to repair the drive by "freezing", "cooking" or "tapping it with a little hammer",
so I decided to find an replacement and managed to get a Miniscribe 8425. That's exactly the drive needed, only the firmware is different. With this drive connected, there is progress. When using "Drawers" now I get the following error: "The drive is not initialized properly. Please run the manager."
As the "manager" is not included in Hyperdrive Driver v3r2, I'm in need for the complete Software. The manual refers to "Hyperdrive System Software Disk 1 + 2".
There was also a special Software when having problems with the Hyperdrive called Hypertools (someone posted this on info-mac in 1986, it's in the info-mac archive).
Can anybody provide the software mentioned above?
Thanks
Carlo

If the drive doesn't spin, the bearings are likely "frozen up" and the spindle motor can't break it free to start it spinning. You could try removing the drive and physically hold it in your hand and twist it back and forth vigorously, as if trying to make the platters inside turn back and forth. This commonly breaks up this seizure and allows the drive to spin again.
This is usually caused by letting the drive sit for a long period of time without running. Even a couple years could do it. If you can successfully get it to spin, it may very well continue to be a reliable drive.

I recently read a better way to unstick a hard drive, and that is to leave it out in the sun or near a heater for awhile, in an attempt to warm up and loosen whatever is sticky. You could try removing the drive and physically hold it in your hand and twist it back and forth vigorously, as if trying to make the platters inside turn back and forth.
