So I create a virtual drive and set up a machine config. I install an OS. I use TransMac to restore the image to the SD card in a USB reader. Then I put the card into an SD to IDE adapter and into a 5300c. What will go wrong there? I got error 10 last time.
Make sure the SD card is formatted with at least Mac OS 9 drivers.
Other than that, I have no idea.

Fair point. I didn't format so if it borrowed drivers they'd be 8.5. I'll report back.
If you are formatting in OSX, go to Partition first, then click on Options. Select Apple Partition Map. Then select Mac format (not Journaled or Extended). Then format with OS 9 drivers.
From there you should be able to copy a system folder to it.

(I'm on Sheepshaver but that will only work (the OS Formatting) on 10.4 or below. Possibly 10.5 but I think they dropped Mac Standard/HFS support after 10.4.)
10.5 still has it. It was 10.6 that dropped write-support for HFS Standard.
I don't know if 10.5 will install Mac OS 9 drivers, however. Better stick with 10.4 for now.
