DuoDock HDD Software 6 posts Aug 9, 2011 — Aug 12, 2011
I just got my DuoDock up and running as a file server for my Plus, and everything I need is on a RAM disk. Is there any way to spin down the DuoDock's HDD? The little spin down button in the control strip only appears to do the Duo's HDD.

Any ideas?

Once your RAM Disk is up, can you do a hot reboot from it?

if so:

. . . do so . . .

. . . try dragging the HDD Icon to the Trash to dismount it . . .

. . . if that works . . .

. . . then hack the sucker with a switch to turn off its power!!!!!! }:)

I hadn't thought of that. With 24 MB of RAM I should have more than enough space for a minimal install and whatever I want to put on it. Though, I'm wondering if there is a software solution. Something as simple as it listing the disks and having a few options such as mount/unmount, spin up/down, etc.

What fun would THAT be? }:) ;) :o)

I don't have a solution, but here's a funny story for you instead.

This seemed like a simple problem, so I thought I'd be all smrt and code something up real quick to just send the SCSI Stop command to stop the drive's motor. And sure enough it was a super easy thing to do.

It just turned out to not be so smrt, as my development machine now has an invalid partition map. :)

How about using the "Sleeper" control panel? It can be set to spin down specified disks on the SCSI bus.
