Yay! I finally got one! SuperMac Thunder II GX

Let me know when you get a cable for it and find a monitor it works with (I have the same card no cable).

well enough i should think. it obviously won't be blazing fast but you can run softwindows on 68k's so i would hope that a PPC could handle it.

I saw a 13w3 cable at my local recycler, though I think it went to BNC and not VGA.  But I have a second spot to check for cables.

SoftWindows might be a bit faster than VPC, too. SoftWindows benefits from only having to emulate Windows and a HAL as opposed to a complete PC.

Would there be much speed difference between Widnows 3.1 and Windows 95 in SoftWindows?

Well, with the right cable, any VGA capable monitor should be capable of monochrome VGA, right? Or does it actually have to be a monochrome VGA monitor? (I'm fairly unfamiliar with monochrome monitors of the VGA persuasion)

Dunno, but are you sure you're in the right thread?

Windows 3.1 uses less resources, so it'll be faster, but Windows 95 will run newer apps. Although, I suppose the age of the apps shouldn't matter much, as both 95 and 3.1 will have some really really old apps, and would only be marginally useful online. (NT4 is where it's at, for retro Windows productivity. )

I think when the mono-only cable is connected to non-mono VGA, you get icky green shade.  It's been a while but the mono VGA pin shares the same video pin as green on color VGA displays.

Or maybe all 3 pins are tied the same and you get white display?

95's not actually as bad as you might think - it can run IE 5.5 or Firefox 1.5 (I think - certainly 1.0 works but not 2.0) and Office 2000.

Yeah, I think somehow my threads got crossed :-/ I blame the TBI and the pain meds... It's easier than admitting I'm not paying attention to where I'm responding...

I'll have to try that some day since I recently got a machine that'd be good with Windows 95 -- it'd be similar to running it in VPC on a 1400 (if not faster, this is a P120 with a 1.2 gig hdd, and I can upgrade it to 40 or more of ram.)

I recently obtained a Pentium 133 system which had Windows 95 on it. Seems fast enough for some tasks.

For Internet stuff, I won't be using it with the Internet, or it is unlikely that I will be.

A real P/133 will be a few magnitudes faster than VPC on a 603/133 -- especially if you can give the P/133 a good chunk (32mb or more) of ram.

What monitor are you going to connect it to?

Woohoo!  Man, I dunno.  Currently I have a tiny 1024x768 LCD connected.  I think I'll have to upgrade.  I'm sure I can find a 1600x1200 4:3 display at the recycler for relatively low cost.

If one shows up at an affordable price on eBay, I might get a G3 accellerator for the 1400. Although a floppy drive is still my top priority.

Speaking for floppies, I just bought two packs of 10 coloured HD disks . I've never had coloured disks before (except DD ones which I use on the Amiga).

That'd be my main display, a Dell whatchamacallit. Wide@$$ 1080p got nothin' on the table by comparison.

I figured on getting that reaction to the connector info, pigeonpigeongo!

around here, it's actually cheaper to get colored ones than normal ones. Even cheaper if they're neon see-through colored disks. Weird, but ohwell.

Makes it difficult for people who want to make large, uniformly colored backup sets.

I want some of those neon ones. I have seen them and they look so cool!

I also got a pack of 20 black ones. Total came to about £6 on ebay for both the black ones and the coloured ones.

Single coloured ones like black or blue or white tend to be cheaper here than coloured ones.

This'll be interesting.  Dunno if the SuperMac will be accelerated by my Radius Rockets, though.  There's a measurable difference in performance with my little red Radius when I have a Rocket installed.

Guess I'll have to try it out.

Dell UltraSharp MultiScan 20" rings a bell, it's a true 20" Image at 1600x1200. literally the largest 4:3 diagonal I've ever had the pleasure of using, matching even the ViewSonic P225fsitting next to it in size, if not in pixels.

IMO, you need to look for a 21" MultiSync CRT w/BNC in your outings, even if it's not 1600 capable. It's sounding to me like you're becoming almost as crazy a VidCard guy as I. Every Mac collector needs one and you need to grab one quickly, before they all disappear into the evil pit that is gaming consoles tucked away in "home theater" cloaked man-caves.
