Are you sure you have the LC Ethernet extension installed? I don't think it's installed by default. You could run the System Installer again, then do Custom Install and make sure the LC Ethernet extension is selected.

This has a list of network drivers. I'd recommend the Apple one to make sure you have the LC Ethernet extension installed.

These installer packages include drivers for Apple's older (system 6, 7) ethernet drivers & machines (Nubus, LC, CS).

I include NSI 1.4.4 since it is an 800k image and supports some 3rd party NIC cards.

NSI 1.5.1 dropped support for 3rd party NIC cards.

Hey, I have this exact card and it does NOT work in any of my machines either. The Macintoshes see it but always gives an error. Did you by chance get this card to ever work?

Run SlotInfo from the Gauge Series to read the DeclROM info. That should identify the manufacturer for your search string.

The only difference is my ROM chip has a different number than yours but pretty much every thing else looks the same. Does yours have the thin green wire on the back of it?

The chip is LC ROM 438D.

I just happen to have another ethernet card I can not use either because it has a weird connector on the end of it. So I swapped out ROM chips and it let me choose ethertalk and gave no error. I though I got it. No. Chooser is unable to see any other machine and the network is not seen.

I have thought about the idea of it being connected to a switch that is gigabit able, and the card not knowing what to do with that signal. Thought I read something about that somewhere.

ROM version isn't the issue, Card ID and Manufacturer will be in the ROM's content. SlotInfo, TechTool, etc. will give you that information so you can search for the proper driver for your cards. There's another utility that gives more comprehensive info in its Reports, but I can't think of it offhand.

I will have to see if I can find a link and download the slotinfo app. Maybe Macintosh Garden?

I do have tech tool pro installed on pretty much every one of my macs. I didnt think to check there. I will do that tonight when I get home from work. Thanx for the tip

I don' t think that the Apple drivers will do the trick, as I do not believe that the Apple cards used the SMC91C92 chip. I did a little searching on the chip part number and the text "LC slot" but didn't come up with anything very useful -- a couple of other people looking for drivers for the same kind of card.

It is a 10baseT card, as I did find part of a datasheet for the SMC chip, and that's what it supports. It is not a 10/100 card, which would have been cool.

Also, what about the bottom of the card? If there's an FCC ID somewhere, you can probably search the FCC database to find who the manufacturer is.

Hmm. there are some markigs on the back now that you mention it.

I had it in two different macs, an LC II and an LC III, both can see it but gives an error almost immediatly when selecting ethertalk, and then reverts back to local talk.

Tech tool pro did not identify the card in the Macintoshes unfortunatley. I clicked each tab.

I thought it was TechTool, but it's TattleTech that gives the most comprehensive report. It's not exactly shareware, though it's a free trial and they expect(ed?) registration and payment if you're (were?) going to use it for business purposes, unlimited use a/o upgraded feature levels. The agreement and registration info is in the freely distributable download's folder after decompression. Since the link below is for OS7-9.2.2, I'm not sure what they expect any longer.

From my post in The Links Project it looks like The Gauge Series is freeware. Newer has a free download of Gauge Pro, which I also have never tried, but it doesn't appear to include SlotInfo. I used SlotInfo for the screenshots in the IIfx' "Full House" series of posts because it gives just enough info clearly in a snappy graphical presentation. TattleTech give you the full story in .TXT, and nothing but the .TXT [] ]'>
