Summoner on Mac OS 9 Troubleshooting 4 posts Jan 12, 2013 — Jan 15, 2013
This question is about a game so I guess it would be ok to put it in the lounge (move it if i'm wrong). I recently purchased a game called Summoner on eBay. I was planning on playing it on my Digital Audio which is dual-booting OS 9 and 10.4.11. This is one of the last games to be OS 9 only so I had two options, run it in classic on tiger or just play it in os 9. I started first trying classic, and the game runs somewhat ok, but it lags quite a bit even with the settings turned down to low. This performance really isn't acceptable for a machine that WELL-exceeds the recommended requirements for the game. So then I decided I would play it in native OS 9. But in OS 9 all I get is a type 12 error whenever I try and launch the game. I've tried re-installing it and changing the amounts of ram, but nothing seems to work. I guess my main question here is how can a game run using classic but not run in os 9 (which is the same system folder for that is used for classic) on the same machine? Any ideas?

EDIT: Just realized there is a software thread lol

I used to get a similar error on my QuickSilver G4 when trying to run Deep Space 9 or Voyager games. I had done a custom install of OS 9. When I reinstalled OS 9 using the default settings, it installed a bunch of QS G4-only extensions and stuff that I didn't know I needed. It solved the crashing issue. That's my only suggestion.

Ok thank you I will try a reinstall.

You'll know it installed correctly when OS 9 comes up with a silver desktop pattern and silver appearance theme.
