I am just going to talk about hardware, no software.

Some of the guys on here said,
don't waste your money and don't waste your time.
i figured i would try it , only because it might be fun.
and if it doesn't work, might make an ok Windows 8 box for the wife

A decent machine for $200 AND a bottle of BAWLS. I'd say you made out.
Now shove it all in an iMac G3 case with a 15" LCD

So, Intel finally pulled the plug on PS/2 for input devices? :?:

my semi recent core i5 board has one ps/2 port and its ying/yang green and purple lol...So, Intel finally pulled the plug on PS/2 for input devices? :?:
Built myself the Mac Pro's "Special cousin" in-bred clone:

It runs a dual core i3 2100 $87
Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 board $89
4GB AMD PC3-8500 (2x 2GB) $23
Sapphire Radeon 6670 1GB $78
and then I got a locally-designed Devanni Nitrous Case for $60 on craigslist
Pulled out my RocketRAID 2300 4-port SATA RAID card
and put in 3x 1TB Hitachi Ultrastars (Got three for $30/pc or $90 altogether)
Threw in a 2TB WD Green drive I had lying around, a 430Watt Antec TruePower Trio and 2 on-hand DVD-+RW DL drives
10.7.5 runs great. I also uploaded a video on youtube where I showed how to setup the RAID for boot. So it's booting from the RAID-0 (Striped) and is super fast. The HDD in RAID maxes almost at 200MB/s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUwnSmlhSnQ
Shows how to do the RAID. easy-peasy way. No mods of files needed.

ok i got all the hardware in my case here,

Got the thumb drive made, pretty much all you need is 3 things, proper DSDT.aml file for your Model and bios rev.
then you need a image of the os, then all you need is the boot loader.
so you image the thumbdrive as if its a hd, then run the loader , it makes your thumb drive bootable and adds that custom DSDT.aml file,
with in this file is everything that needs to be patched, so your hardware works properly with the os.
then pop in thumb drive, set it as boot, install os on HD ... and wala done. it really is that easy.
then run apple software update.

That's a tiny board in a giant, boring case, man. It's screaming "GIVE ME A COOL CASE, DUDE!"
I agree
do you want me to send it to you? you can do something really modtastaic to it.

I would really want to take a laptop or mobile board (something with small, quiet fans) and make a flat compact using just the front bezel from a Classic. I'm still turning that one around in my head.
For a full desktop board, I don't have many ideas at this point. I have an empty IIsi case around here. It would fit in that.

pico-itx or a raspberry pi would do just the trick! lolI would really want to take a laptop or mobile board (something with small, quiet fans) and make a flat compact using just the front bezel from a Classic. I'm still turning that one around in my head.
One of those Intel NUC platforms would be ever better - Pico ITX is just too expensive and slow (they're mostly all VIA CPUs). But I like the idea, kind of like a flat panel Classicpico-itx or a raspberry pi would do just the trick! lol
) and you can make it an easel type stand like the studio display has
Any one get 10.8 going on these yet? If I do a hack I would love to try the newest os.
yeah the loader is fully 10.8 working.. i just do not have a 10.8 image at the moment.
I've had my eye on using the Apple Powered Speakers as the model for the back/base of a FlatClassic. The stepdown at the top helps and the curved sides fit in nicely with the curve of the front bezel. The flat back and minimal depth would be about perfect. Ballast it with the PSU at the bottom and build it just deep enough for a Laptop DVD and I think you'd have a winner on your hands. [. . . make it an easel type stand like the studio display has.

Nice case there, coius. Very suited to a Hackintosh
* Voila, not wala. This page has a flash thing that plays a recording of the word so you know how to pronounce it:... and wala done.

Ha. Reminds of the time my brother picked up a box of hors d'oeuvres my Mom had in the kitchen and asked her what "horses doovers" were.
i like wala better
Thought it was a 68k clone.OK-where's a 68k Mac clone?
I think trag has an Outbound, does that still count?
If not, BMOW cloned one on a chip a year ago, IIRC.

Although I love my G4 sawtooth-cased Mac "clone", I would really love to pack a powerful MiniITX hackintosh into an older 68k case, like a Q700 or IICX/CI. That would be quite a sleeper.
I'm going to put the guts of my iMac into an IBM 5160 (and vice-verse...). Now we're talking.
Heh, if I can find a busted G5 tower for cheap, I might put my IIfx logic into it.
@Bunsen:
And for the finishing touch:

I had to take the filter panels off both sides to do that. Took about 5 minutes each side to remove the plastic rivets. The sticker is the Apple stickers that shipped with Apples and then it's mounted to the filter panel. Not quite the best, but it's clean when it comes to adding them vs. the exterior

I would like to make a comment about the Micorcenter USB 3.0 Thumb drive, the green one that is in the picture.
When writing an image to it, I still only get about 7.5 MB/s, However when reading, I was getting 45 MB/s to where usually the other USB 2.0 thumb drive I have was toping out around 25 - 28 MB/s (Read) about 5.5 MB/s write.
