List of what you are working on!! Vintage Hardware Fixes/Ida
I've got a few things to do myself and recapping is one of them. I'd gladly send them out to uniserver if I didn't have many. I want to learn for myself anyway to continue in this hobby. I love fixing broken things. There's also a laundry list of things to do (sorry, it's not all 68k) but this is off the top of my head.
Recap:
- 2 Macintosh Portable 5120 - one no sounds, the other no boot.
- Mac SE/30 - no sound
- Mac Classic II - no sound
- Mac SE - bars or some such pattern (it's been a while)
- Mac Plus - wobbly screen
- Mac Color Classic - intermittent sound
- Lisa Profile power supply - smoked it
- Lisa 1.8w power supply - smoked it
- NeXT Cube Optical Drive - need analog board recap (to hopefully fix)
Not sure what to do:
- NeXT N4006 monitor shuts down on start up - bought 13w3 to VGA connector to move beyond this
Reassemble:
- Amiga 1200 - rebuild CF card, put in new case
- NeXT Cube - sand, paint, put back together.
- NeXT Color Turbo - waiting for 13w3 to VGA connector to try for first time and put in hard drive and install OS
- Commodore PET 4032 - resolder piezo buzzer for speaker
- McGuyer a hard drive into the Mac SE
- find and install an original 400k drive for the original Mac
Try:
- Commodore PET 2001 Chicklet - try 4040 floppy drive and PET SD
- HD20 drive on Mac 512ke (should work)
- IBM 5150 on Commodore 1082 monitor (CGA) and test
- SCSI hard drive on Lisa
- Install the rest of the OSes on Lisa X/Profile
- Figure out how to create Osborne boot disks and try the Osborne 1
Keep lookout for:
- 400k drive for the original Mac at a reasonable price
- original ROM for the original Mac
- Hard Disk 20SC for Mac Plus
- 16Mb x 8 30 pin simm memory for SE/30
- 8MB x 8 72 pin FPM simm memory for NeXT Color Turbo
- IBM 5170 AT (my first real computer)
- PCMCIA CF card reader for Amiga 1200
- Amiga 1200 Accelerator card
- NeXT color monitor?
- Lisa SunRem brackets for 20MB MFM set up
- IBM 5153 monitor

Ah, related to the SE/30 debacle?
Last time I communicated with him, I was going to meet up with him and deliver a machine to him, but we never finalized plans.

no there was no debacle with the SE/30's (I think that was with a third SE/30 board that I didn't get). from another member on here, i think it was a trade or something...
the debacle was with a LC475/q605 board, He sent that, and 2 se/30 boards to me in a loosely packed box with aluminum foil wrapped around em and a couple scrunched up sheets of paper. The boards were repeadly banging together, inside the box, and there was all kinds of knocked off parts in the bottom of the box when i opened it. I did the best i could to put all the parts back on and carefully removed all the tiny little pieces of aluminum foil from under all the i/c's. and Professionally recapped them too! He got all the boards back and they all worked except the the lc475/q605 board… well it worked fine but the sound just made like a high pitched tone or something… he kinda sounded like he was pissed off about it.. and kinda was sounding like it was my fault or something, and that i should take it back and fix it… i said nope… haven't herd from em since.
I believe the se/30 debacle was between him and another member that sold him a bum se/30 he was all blow out about that as well if I can recall. Don't remember the whole story. but i do know the 2 se/30's that he sent me were screwed… someone had already started on em, missing pads etc… i had more then 8 straight hours into those boards. Was a little proud of my self when both se/30s worked… but that lc 475… its so funny because when i tested the board when it booted up and worked!!! … i just flipped it off and called it good.. for some reason, never even connected the speaker, Was just impressed worked! Besides never really had sound issues with a LC475/Q605 before, this would of been the first one.
When parts on the PCB are mechanically ripped from boards slapping against each other like that… It does a lot more damage then what one might think.
Maybe he felt like he got a bad deal from a member on here with that Bum se/30 and then got a bad deal from me when I wouldn't take the LC475 back to fix the sound… I told em just look around and maybe there is still a hunk of tin foil under something.. i think he said, he was going to throw it aside and buy a new one. i dunno. i wish em the best.
edit, I forgot some knocked off parts on the bottom of one of those SE/30's, I couldn't find em, they had made it through a hole in the box. This was another board that CC_333's parts se/30 helped me fix… so that makes 5 SE/30's so far that CC_333's board has fixed
Im Wrong, My FDHD has his network filters in it as well, This was before I bought a mess of new filters. Well now that i am really thinking of it… my Classic II has the FPU from CC_333's parts se/30 board LOL>

I'm that other member with respect to the SE/30 stuff. IIRC, the board developed video issues soon after he got the computer from me.
In any case, the machine I got from him has had some issues, so, it all evened out in the end.

They are working fantastic, you shelf them, or sell em, and now there is issues.
That is one reason i am hesitant to sell vintage mac on ebay.
The thought of the buyer keeping the machine.. and my money… and Shipping money out of my pocket…

held it on the dead cap for about 5-8 seconds, and it came right off the pcb as if it was just sitting on there.
then little flux + wic, on the pads, then little acetone clean up… fresh caps installed, done. 40 min. +/-

I kinda wonder if he did something to the machine that caused it to go wonky. Worked perfectly for me, then, within 24 hours of him getting it, it started acting up.
That, plus evilBay's new policy of holding people's money ransom for 21 days, if you haven't sold something recently. Sold my old iPhone 4 there. Had to call PayPal the evening of the 25th day (buyer paid via eCheck, of course) to get them to release the funds.

I've pretty much stopped borking things myself and am making a run at de-borking a few this year, hopefully.
I'd love to get the DA and QS'02 back up and running, but setting up the Pismo as my main Workstation has been such a blast that I can back burner the G4 resurrections for a bit.
I'll concentrate on getting one of the PB100s up and running along with the NASA Portable. I also need to get the pet IIfx recapped for sure.
Projects:
SCSI Adapter for the Portable: I'm thinking about taking another whack at that PCB you mentioned, uni. I think I got things all messed around on that, gotta straighten it out. I've got a PCB form factor/connector/cable hack noodled out that will do the Translation/Power Adaptation with next to nothing required in terms of soldering of components, connectors or cables involved. [}] ]'>
SuperIIsi™ hack: Now that I've got the (first ever?) Radius Rocketized Macintosh IIsi up and running, it's time to move along with relocating the PDS Cards to the basement underneath the MoBo. I need the Radius_Color_Pivot_II/IIsi on the PDS Bus in order to full-screen mode the Rocket_33 Window under RocketShare. The NIC will be underneath as well, with a SuperMac PDS Adapter permanently installed under the MoBo PDS as the adapter/bridge board and SIP carrier card in case I need to add the zeners SuperMac decided weren't necessary for their VidCards alone, but might prove helpful with two PDS cards working in harmony with the NuBus Adapter.
IIsi Bank A Memory Hack: Once I got the Rocket with gonzo RAM on board Rollin' in the IIsi, I sort of let this one slip. However I've got another notion or two and did a sketch this afternoon outlining a brand new approach to the hack that I need to research and test. Fingers crossed.
Duo2300c/PB1400c Cross-Pollination: the New Year will be a time of testing some of my long delayed 2300c/1400 hacks once I get the high capacity BTI Battery R&D done and at least one functional internal battery rebuild done.
Hopefully the Wet Tile Saw till be masticating CRT Glass before it too hits its first birthday as an unused toy. [}] ]'>
The almost four year old toys in the MacintoshClassicIIIColorTVp™ Project Box have been waiting long enough for a screen upgrade, I think that sheet of paper is yellowed by now! [] ]'>
That's all I'm gonna list, because I'm sure to come up with something to distract me from completing at least half of these by the end of next year.
