Performa 200 boots to blank or checker board screen
Turns out the seller doesn't want the Performa back, so I'm going to try and fix it. I've run into a bit of a snag. I can't figure out what it is. Nothing looks to have leaked, PRAM battery wasn't even getting read explode. So, I'm left wondering whats going on with Lady Kenmore here. Any ideas?
It's caps, unfortunately. Even if they look fine, the checkerboard on the Classic II/Performa 200 generally means that caps will have to be replaced.
I take that back. After inspecting the bottom of the board and area visible underneath the ROM and RAM chips, there looks to be some faint white spots on it. I hope it is not water corrosion. If it is, it doesn't looks like it has gotten to far.
As always i can cap that for you. If you don't feel like doing it.

Uniserver, your $35 with caps, does that include return shipping? I'm think about having you do it. Here are some pictures of the corrosion:

Yes, recap should do it alright. I had exactly the same problem (checkerboard screen) with my Classic II and the board showed absolutely no signs of leakage whatsoever. Actually the board looked brand new! Still though the caps must have dried out or something because recapping fixed it.
Strangely enough, after washing the board it caused a short somewhere so that the power suppy wouldn't even start up (click click sound). Maybe some water got into one of the faulty caps and caused the short. I wasn't expecting anything when I recapped it so now I'm even happier!

uniserver did the caps for me and says it functions and looks brand new (judging by the photos, I have to agree!).

Aladdin's got exactly the same thing, and I know that her motherboard's never been through a dishwasher like uniserver suggested. What causes this?
This one did appear to of been ran through a dishwasher, the spots of white had to of been soap residue.

I think he is having a PSU - A/B Anomaly going on here with the screen.
I'v already suggested a re-cap of the A/B - PSU board.
Its almost like the the power circuit almost wants to trip out and doesn't.
The first thing I would do is get a meter on the +5 +12 and watch for fluctuating voltages.
next i would disconnect the floppy and hd, i know you said that you disconnected, the HD, but power too.
also i might try turning the brightness down just to see if that has any effect.

At-least this ebay machine now boots up to the desktop... Way better then a worthless checker board screen

Interesting how the Hard Drive has some missing or bent pins on the SCSI connector.
I guess they got frustrated with it, after they dish washered the Main board and it didn't work.
Then they dumped it on eBay. eBay can be a great place... But i would hope the seller would of disclosed
they had previously tried to fix it, and failed.
