I thought about HAM. But I cant bring myself into getting a license, as I have no idea what I would do with HAM. the interwebz ruined me If anything, i would use it to design long-haul wireless networks to get my cable connection out at the campground, but that would be insanely cost prohibitive as the tower would have to be very high.

any ideas?

Nope, There is a very tall hill in between, and I dont know of any people in the area in between that I know i could put anything. It gets flat. But, I studied this awhile back using topology data, and I am 990ft above sea level, and there is a point in between the campground and me that is about 1300feet or so.

This doesnt include all the trees and forest in between either. So if I were to build anything, it would have to be below 700mhz. Anything higher will be very tough.

well i guess you could put the repeater on the hill, that way both sites will be aimed at it. you can make some pretty cheap towers with pvc

obviously the higher the antenna at each site the better.

900mhz will help with penetration but. ya might want to stick with wifi standards.

2.4ghz still has some basic level of penetration. its when you get to 5ghz that you have almost none.

How could I put a repeater on the hill? I dont own any land there.

is there a house up there? You can make a deal with a homeowner, offer them some free wifi, if they let you throw an antenna up.

I never thought of that ;-)

Guess the only way to know is drive up there and put an antenna on my car to make sure I can hit the house.
