Nobody likes the G3 all-in-one
There was a listing on CL for a G3 all-in-one that had been posted for months (I kid you not!) and after they dropped the price again I figured it would be a good machine to act as a network bridge for some of my older machines. I thought I’d get a stock machine but it ended up coming with 224MB RAM, a 40GB HD, and a DVD/CD-RW. Pretty solid deal in my book.
That’s not the most interesting thing I’ve acquired recently though, this is:

Just picked this up today and while it didn't come with a hard drive I'm sure I've got an extra floating around somewhere. The guy said that he'd had the ad up for a day and change and no one had responded, then after I emailed him suddenly he got seven more interested people. Checked out the IIsi's insides and it was very clean in there and thankfully NO Maxell battery!

I like the AIO, haven't seen one for sale recently. Takes up a lot of space though!
If G3 AIOs weren't so bulky and heavy, I'd buy another one. I think they're awesome and were perfect for the educational market.
Years ago a local recycler had a room full of them and asked if I wanted one (G3 AIO), nope. I don't like the TAM or original Imacs either so shoot me.

I don't get the hate for the TAM. I guess you guys also don't get the love for the TAM.
Why'd we bring the TAM into this? But might as well state my opinion on it I guess... Half of me likes the design and half of me doesn't like it.
Personally I like the design of the TAM, and the startup noise, but I feel it was underpowered for what they were asking for it.
As far as the G3 AIO goes it certainly is a heavy machine. My high school's library was full of them, only the computer lab got the nicer / newer iMacs. Of course, the teachers were really shafted, they got stuck with 7200s.

Alfred had a TAM, even if it was in the worst Batman movie ever. I'd like one.
To me, a G3 AIO is a good bridge Mac. Can support USB but also has SCSI and a floppy drive.

That's why I maxed the RAM, put a 400MHz Sonnet in, replaced the hard drive with a CF card, and popped in Ethernet and USB to make it useful. I agree, when new, it wouldn't have been impressive compared to the rest of the Mac range, as far as performance goes, and to make them hum wouldn't have been cheap back in the day. But I did all of the above for under $100, so that was money well spent.
And I'm not worried about parts commonality between the Powerbooks and the TAM, just means I have a plentiful supply of spares.
Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to have a TAM if I could find a complete one out here in decent shape that wasn't new computer money.
I'll second Unknown_K - I'd love that FPD if you don't want it.
I'm specifically mentioning my FPD in my will. 
Betchya a nickel it's incompatible with your reboxed SE, unfortunately. (That's an Apple FPD, not a Radius one, right?)
Did you ever try the TTL-to-VGA wiring idea?
Yeah, I know it's probably not right for the MicroMac SE, but I'd still like it for one of my other machines 
The monitor is the hard part, finding a card to run it is easy.
I'll take a Molar Mac if anyone is giving them away for free or wants to drop one off here in SW Mitten State.

The G3 AIO is actually my favorite oldworld mac. The perfect bridge machine and so ugly only a weirdo like me could love it! In truth I've spent countless hours in front of one of these at school and many more once I purchased one for home. A fun fact: the wallstreet powerbook is literally a beige G3 with power management functionality. Apple really did just take a desktop board and rearrange the components.

Yeah, I'd like an AIO too lol. Mainly from good memories and for a bridge Mac.
I like the old G3 AIOs. Almost had one for free, but the son of a friend snatched it up before I did. He uses it for his Music production & creation as he is a professional musician like his mom (my friend - who is in the Bergen County Philharmonic, he is in the US Arm Forces Orchestra and plays for the President all the time).

I have one, it needs work and I got it from JRL awhile back to fix up my other, working one (I got it for its plastics, which are in decent shape). And it's apparently from a school in Cupertino, so it really didn't go far from home, did it?
If anyone's interested in a fixer-upper G3 AIO, let me know, as I really only wanted it's plastics (I will put the somewhat cracked, but basically sound plastics from the other one onto it, of course).
Also, Uniserver had some for awhile. He still might, if you want to get a hold of him and ask.

The market can be funny that way.
I found an weeks-old ad on Craig's list for three IIci's for $50 each. From the photos, it looked like they lacked the drive tray/shelf assembly. I already have three IIci's so I didn't really want another one, but I figured these might need rescuing, so I emailed the guy and said, I'd give him $10 each to save them from going to the dump. If he had another buyer, or was planning to keep them if they didn't sell, that was great. I just wanted to save them in the event that the dump or Good Will (scrapper) was the fall-back destination.
He emailed back and asked if I could go a little higher. I pointed out he didn't seem to have the trays, reiterated my first point. He claimed he did have the trays. I said I could go to $50 for all three. Got an email back that said he was getting me some photos to show the trays -- seemed like he was accepting my offer, but wasn't clear. I waited a few days for the photos, then emailed him to ask, and point out that I didn't really need photos. If he was accepting my offer, I'd see the trays when I got to his house.
He emailed back that after a couple of months of no responses, someone had bought them.
Which was the best outcome. But it's weird. No interest for weeks or months, then folks pop out of the woodwork.
I hope that the buyer knows about logic board recapping. The seller said he had some program on the hard drives he'd like to use, but none of the IIci's worked. I tried to explain about logic board recapping, but I can tell he just didn't get it. He couldn't see any capacitor goo and just didn't understand how hard to spot the stuff can be. The seller asked if I could recap them at one point and get one working, but I just don't have time, so I referred him to Charles' website and then he decided he wasn't going to bother after all.
I wouldn't mind picking up a G3 AIO sometime myself. Since I take old Macs on the road a lot and don't have a lot of color-capable ones, it would be a nice pickup for running Kid Pix and other "better in color" stuff alongside the compacts (and the IIci that I finally demothballed today--don't worry, it got recapped back in 2011).
I generally prefer AIOs just because of the ease of transit, although with that being said, I sort of want to get this LC II that's been hanging around my place for the past year back on its feet again. Both the Mac and its monitor will need a recap but I'm thinking of having Uniserver do it sometime early next year, especially since I have a "Macs for Kids Tour" I am currently planning...stay tuned
Since someone mentioned the Maxells again...I have one of those batteries that's completely intact. I should do a 50/50 raffle with everyone on here as to what day it will start leaking if it gets left in a garage indefinitely.

You know, there's so many LCs that are connected to those dandy little displays that I've encountered at least one person who has actually believed the LC + 12" RGB is actually an AIO--I guess since they match up so well. (Just don't put one of those monitors on a IIci--now that's an ugly combo).

So, it sounds like if some enterprising person found a bunch of G3 AIO's, there's a market here.
uniserver had somee, he'll know what kind of market the is for those gawd-awful looking things. Molar Mac is a TERRIBLE moniker for the hulking beast. Anything remotely implying "toothsome" has to have been sarcastic.
The first time I saw one was in the library at Stuyvesant H.S. on visiting day. My first thought was that one of the infamous pranksters there (think "Hackers") had put an Apple logo on a particularly horrible example of E-Machine POS MacAlike series.
