Apple Older Software Downloads
Will all of the stuff fit on a DVD? If so somebody want to burn me one?

With all the languages, it's almost 12GB.
I must be missing stuff then, my copy comes out at 8.75GB (so no chance of getting it on a DL dvd anyway)

Yes, everything on the copy of the former http://download.info.apple.com I have is almost 12GB. I'm not exactly sure where I got my copy of the site but i added Sherry's files and it's almost 12GB. I was kinda surprised myself when I checked.
Since this is all the free software, someone could seed a torrent file.
A torrent would work for me.
The Internet Archive site has everything (I think) minus the files Sherry made available.

Once you download that, download Sherry's files for 9.x upgrades. If someone could take Sherry's files and use the same directory structure, someone could create a zip file and seed the 9.X archive as a Torrent and overlay the 9.X files so it is complete.
I'll check my files and see if thee is any difference this weekend. I think the Internet Archive is the same. It's just smaller because it's a zip file.

One small problem, Sherry's north American files have all had the resfork stripped and are no longer mountable

The files appear to be binhex-ed or at least stuffed, so they ought to survive transfers OK. They appear to be the North American versions as well.

Where did you get this information? I was not aware of this. If this is true, then great! That would basically do all my systems.
Also, it has been a while and I have still not received a reply from Tim Cook. I may try going through the "conventional" Apple Support site.

6.0.8, 7.0.1 and 7.5.3 (+ the 7.5.5 update) are available free, but afaik only apple is allowed to distribute them. Not that they will chase anyone for distributing them.
Other OS's (older or newer) are not included int his as far as i know (but the same goes, is apple really going to chase someone distributing OS 1.1)

Yeah, the 7.1.x series is the big hole in the System 7 releases that one is allowed to hand out for free. None of those are available for release. So, 7.0.1 or 7.5.3 but nothing in-between.
Does anyone know the reason behind 7.1 being the only one not available? Could it be some sort of deal with IBM or Motorola?

I was just saying that if I had update disks from 7 to 7.1 I would have got it from apple online so 7.1 should not be any different I would think in its distribution.
I seem to remember some stuff for the Comm toolbox interfacing with stuff like IBM and Oracle databases.
Well, 7.1.1 (System 7 Pro) was a commercial product, so that's why it was never put up by Apple for free. 7.1.1 (non-pro) was specific to the Powerbook 520/540 & Powerbook Duo 270/280, so it never saw a general release. 7.1.2 (68k) was Performa/Quadra specific and only seen with a limited number of early edition Quadra/Performa 6xx models, so it never saw a general release. 7.1.2 (PPC) was also model specific and never saw a general release.
As for 7.1 itself, I can't really explain why that one isn't available. I have seen mention of a "7.1 Update" that makes it sound like it was available for 7.0.x machines to update to a generic 7.1 release. IDK. The apple system compatibility chart seems to indicate it was compatible with a wide range of Macs from that time period:

There was a general non-Pro 7.1 release for 68k Macs.
Since the files are still available from Apple, and just the page of links is gone, I've made some pages of selected links for Macintosh Plus System Software, for English North American versions of System 6, System 7.0, and System 7.5.
...If the links are still available but the page leading to them is gone, are we allowed to make a 'mirror' of the URL links from the old page and post them here?
One used to be able to get to those files by typing in the directory where they were stored on the server because then the server would return a directory listing but now it seems to redirect the user to a "file not found" page.
Actually they did. It costs them money to host files that get accessed not more than I would guess about once a month at most.
They might have deleted it last August; things can stay in server caches for surprising amounts of time even after they've been officially deleted (sometimes they can even stay there indefinitey until the storage space is needed for something else).
It is still possible to get directory listings, using a trick by Hiroto. Start at http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/ and retry until the correct listing appears.
As far as I know it is legal, which is why I put some Macintosh System Software links on my web site.

on the megaupload link given in the first page of posts gives me an error at 99% saying decrption error
That actually wouldn't cost much at all then. Apple wouldn't have to pay for the storage, only the bandwidth which would be nothing at most.
