Censorship at 68kmla?
I posted a topic yesterday about a rather unpleasant eBay experience which today seems to be gone. Anyone care to explain?

Anyway, it has nothing to do with you. The seller (or someone posing as the seller) popped by to comment on our rudeness and to be several times more rude in return. Nothing as rude as the link sent to you, but it did involve some nasty video clips of Macs being demolished.

Yes he just contacted me trough eBay to tell me so... wow, all this because I asked him if I could please buy his item???? Is that not what eBay is for? Kinda strange he found me on here, he either searched on my name or was already a member.

He's flamed Mac folk before. For those who don't know, the eBay seller was also the admin of "My Dream Windows App" at one point, which was nothing more than a pure hate ground to anyone who owns or uses an Apple product. I am trying to find more information on this matter outside of the 68kMLA.
It's probably a good idea to have had the thread removed, not due to Puckman, but due to "the sellers" responces being quite abusive. If it wasn't locked, I myself probably would have gotten quite abusive toward "the seller" as well. There's something about what he said that makes the blood boil. I'm not one to tolerate BS from someone like him, regardless of whether it be directed at me, or in this case, the good people of this forum who put in tireless hours to help fellow users with problems, etc.
The kind of behaviour put forward by the individual is not to be tolerated on forums such as these.

It looks like it has actually been deleted, not just locked - why is that? It's not like it was doing anything wrong, we weren't slandering him or anything.

Maybe we should have a boycott forum here for posting the identities of ebay sellers who screwed us over or are unpleasant to deal with so none of us transacts with them in the future.
I somehow can't see that happening. Maybe it can be done, as one of those non-community, not-affiliated type things, but not inside the 68kMLA.
We did have one but it got locked pretty quickly, at fear of being sued I think.

I guess so, as it's only one side of a story that is being posted. I don't see that it's a problem as long as only the facts of what actually happened are posted though.
Slander can only exist in the absence of truth. Truth is an absolute defense against slander.
so how could we get sued then ? for telling the truth ?

The problem with slander vs. non-slander is properly documenting the "truth".
I have a friend who wants to ensure that people are aware of the conduct of a medical doctor. In order to do so she collected dozens of references from reputable sources and posted them with no interpretation of the details. That doctor would have a hard time touching her.
On the other hand, saying that "blah emailed me blah" is much harder to prove (emails can be lost or forged). There is also a lot of interpretation of the facts. So the whole thing reduces to us vs. them. In other words, it could end up a legal mess.
Then again, it may not have anything to do with the law either. Such vengeance threads would just diminish the repute of our forums.

I think overall, it's a pass on any eBay scam forums. Often the idea is to post your successes on eBay, not the hundreds of failures that happen every day.

On eBay US, if the buyer has more than one or two negative feedbacks, then you should pass. Abroad, people are more liberal with negative feedbacks, but a negative is very damning in the US.
I agree, starting a flame war is not a good idea. I only wanted to air my surprise and frustration. This is not the first unfriendly response I have had when asking to send outside the USA.
Can anyone from the USA please fill me in what the big deal is? I send my ebay items worldwide all the time. Even receive a fair amount of items.

It is always a seller's prerogative whether and to whom to sell. You weren't the only potential buyer from outside the US whose bidding was not acceptable to the seller in this instance. You, however, did not accept the refusal, and sought to make your point publicly. No other would-be buyer wanted to air ... surprise and frustration in these forums.
And before you start to rewrite history, it was your abrasiveness as well as that of the seller that got the thread locked.

Frankly, I don't see why the troll has to complain so much about Mac users. Doesn't he realize that the Windows/Mac war is over and that they won, for now?

I've said it already, that person was known for also flaming users over at My Dream App, and is widely regarded as a problem not only among the Mac Community, but the Internet Community in general.
I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you on that one...

That would be bad. BY compiling a user generated list of e-bay sellers who scam / abuse us collectors it would allow us to better gauge who and who not to do business with. As a community I think we owe it to ourselves to look out for one another. By watching other peoples back we perform a potentially invaluable service for our 'community' members. So long as the discussion / list is conducted in a civil and adult fashion free of flames and trolls (on both sides).
It would be extremely unwise on several fronts. First is that it uses a forum owned by someone else to vent the displeasure of posters—who do not own the forum despite their membership of its community—about eBay transactions. It is the someone else who has to suffer any legal comebacks as a result of statements in posts. That is something for all enlisted posters in this or any forum to keep in mind.
Second, it relies on one-sided accounts of the supposedly unsatisfactory transactions, with no possibility of other posters' being able to verify the facts of the matter. Third, as we have had well demonstrated recently, it invites retaliation from named sellers or respondents even beyond posting a response to such allegations. Fourth, it encourages self-justification and self-exculpation from the OP, which is no more necessarily a matter of Revealed Truth than was the original post.
Fifth, in short, it is the kind of thread that this Army needs as much as it needs an outbreak of STD.

What this forum needs is some posts about 68K macs! They seem few and far between just recently...
