I'm not upgrading instantly either. I want to upgrade my RAM to 1 Gig first, and then get it. But, All my christmas money, and any other money I get from here on out is going toward a new LoBo for "my" macbook.

you know for the price of that part alone you are better of selling the junked macbook for parts and then start saving for a new 1300 macbook

Considering that it sounds like the machine was a "lemon" from the amount of times it went back to Apple under warranty, and the early MacBooks are well-known to be rubbish, it would seem to make sense to sell it (it might get quite a good price) and get a new MacBook (if that's what you want), unless you can find one with a trashed screen for very cheap and are confident in piecing the two together into a working one.

I'm thinking.... Flower Power iMac G3 case & monitor, with dual Xeon 5365s inside.

Who's with me?

Could make an excellent case mod, and it's very possible with the right time and effort. Maybe start a little lighter... a Mac Mini at the centre of it all. Dual Xeons if it works.

Yick. Flower Power? I'd like a Athlon 64 x2 iMac with 1600x1200 screen and a 256mb vid card. That would just be awesome. Slate or whatever they called the grey one, indigo, or blueberry, or orange would be good colors.

No, it wouldn't be smart just to save for a new MB because The LoBo is about 300 dollars, and a new MB is $800 more. If I had a job, and a need for a C2D and iLife '08 then I'd get it, however I'd rather just keep this, and save my pennies for a LoBo

I don't think I'd trust the machine though, from what you said about how many times things have gone wrong on it before it sounds like one of those ones that was just never right and something else will go wrong on it. One reason why I decided to cut my losses and sell my Acer and get a new PC rather than paying several hundred to get it repaired was that I wouldn't have trusted it again after two things had gone wrong with it in the last 6 months.

Honestly everything has been replaced on it. Case plastics, PSU, Screen, Battery charging logic. And the C2D LoBos go for as much as a 1.83 CD, I might even get a C2D too.

i would not trust that thing with in an inch of its life either

even if you can get a logic board replacment and repair the machine what if it goes tits up again then what wil you do ?

at least with a new one you are sure everything is new fitted as it should be with a year warranty

Leave it to you to mount a Mac Pro motherboard inside a G3 iMac. [8D]
