Wireless networking question? (newbie)
Is it possible to purchase a wireless hub, and two airport cards for two systems (iBook 700 and iMac 350 (blueberry if you want to now)) and have both systems see each other over the wireless network. I will be sharing a cable modem with both systems. Just thought it would be cool to use maybe Apple's remote networking tool (which I believe can connect to other systems using dial up, or direct ethernet connection?????) to see each other's HD's and transfer files between both systems over the wireless network. Thanks for your input.

in short, yes...there isn't such a thing called "wireless hub", it's a router. As long as both computers are on the same subnet, they can see each other...
See each other? Does this mean I can mount and open up the other HD, and transfer files between each system? Can I also see and control devices attached to one or the other (ie. send a file to be printed from one system to another that has a printer attached?)?

sure, just through the regular Apple Talk is fine...unless you want Complete control of the other computer, then you'll need something like Timbuktu X. Also keep in mind that my Linksys consistantly crashes on certain file transfers from a wired computer to a wireless...but I'm sure Airport doesn't have that problem.

to print, you'll need something along the lines of USB Print Sharing setup...otherwise, like I mentioned above, Timbuktu allow you to easily copy files over and provide Complete control. (aside for minor graphic lags, you can set it as if you are AT the other other machine)

Yea, it works fine. I have
a PC laptp, TiPB and Lombard all
wireless'd together and never have
any problems including FileSharing etc.
Interestingly, it seems like the 2 mac
laptops essentially bypass the wireless
hub when they are talking to each other
(or at least, I see no data packets
flashing on its LED).

Just make sure the router that you purchase supports Appletalk (if you plan on using Appletalk). Most of them don't.
I purchased the D-Link Airplus DI-614+. I thought someone mentioned this on another site as supporting appletalk. Tried searching on D-Link's site to no luck.

yes, all of that is much simplified under Jaguar/10.2
turn on file sharing on both macs and a simple cmd-K in the finder shows all the macs available on the network, without using appletalk.
also, once you turn on printer sharing on the computer hooked up to the printer, that same printer shows up automatically on print center on the other computer. again, no appletalk here.

Really? Is this the end of needing AppleTalk?
