DHCP problem - using RoadRunner
I'm having a problem - when turning my mac on yesterday (new iMac) I couldn't surf 
The problem is that the DHCP is giving me an address that starts with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx. I talked with RR Tech help and he said that a 169 or 192 is not a good address (I should be getting a 24. 25. 26. or 204.) I've never had a problem before and I've been using my mac/roadrunner for 4 months. I've deleted my TCP/IP Preferences file twice now and reset in OS9 (I'm running OSX but RoadRunner is configured in 9).
Does anyone have any advice? It sucks not having internet access - especially when you get so used to having it.
If i'm missing any relevant information please let me know.

I'm not sure if this would apply to you or not...When I was at school in NY, I was using RR. About two years ago, they took out the need for software (RR manager or whatever it was called), although the install techs still use it (why I have no idea, but I would guess it makes registering your account easier). To set up your cable modem you need only to (in X) open up the network panel select built in ethernet, use TCP/IP and configure using DHCP.

It won't let me configure my DHCP - it says its automatic. That's the problem - I can't do it I trashed the TCP/IP Preferences folder in OS9 (where it's stored) which was their only advice and it didn't work.
I searched through OS9 and X looking for other TCP/IP files and couldn't find anything. Very frustrating. I have my modem plugged into my Dell laptop right now (work 'puter).

DHCP should be automatic...all provided by the server. For my network settings (in OS X) I have Location: Automatic, Show: Built-in Ethernet, Configure: Using DHCP. Sorry if it seemed like I meant you had to provide the ip, subnet mask, etc. Also, when you boot into X are you loading classic on boot-up? If so, disable that and see if that helps.
