Watercolor 1.3 ::: Now in Olive Troubleshooting 50 posts Dec 22, 2002 — Jan 2, 2003
Alright, the thread edit still doesn't work... sorry to all the anti-themers for the apparent flood here.
------------------------------------------

Watercolor 1.3 is up, now available in Olive as well as the original Ergonomic Blue color schemes. Many thanks to Beer Penguin for doing the Olive variation upon the many requests for one, I would not have had the time to do it myself currently.

Get Watercolor 1.3 here:

Let me know what you think. BTW, it's the one in the middle.

First of all, that's a beautiful site you have... the wallpaper is very nice as well, now all we need is the Olive version

Thanks

WOW, that's actually a decent looking theme in the Olive color! Nice!
Hey Carbon, how do you get the root menu to change to olive just by selecting graphite in system prefs?
Hey swiz, what do you mean exactly? The Ergonomic Blue version and the Olive version are bundled together in one .dlta but act as separate themes when loaded into Duality. When you switch between aqua and graphite in Sys Prefs > General the Widgets are changed from Windows style to Mac style. I've also copied in the respective Apple menu icons... for example in the Olive version I have the same Apple menu icon set for pxm's 2030, 10001, and 10142 -- this way the Apple menu appears Olive in both the "aqua" and "graphite" states.

Hope I answered the right question... lemme know otherwise.

How on earth did you get the Olive variant done so quick? I am trying to do the Silver variant (and even with the source files, from the original XP version) it's going to take ages, there blueish tints everywhere. (then there is all the repeats in the Extras.rsrc file).
Mediaman_12: well Beer Penguin did the Olive variant -- it was simply a matter of hue-shifting all of my blue elements in the original Ergonomic Blue version of Watercolor.... but as I have said before it's not that easy for Silver. And it sounds like you are interested in using the actual resources from the WinXP version, which I didn't even use myself when I started the project. I think it will take you a while if you want to continue it this way... but a faster and simpler solution would be something along the lines of a 70% desaturation of all the blue elements in the Ergonomic Blue theme.

I think you should at least give that method a try, it will speed things up and it should look fairly accurate. If you use ThemePark you can highlight all of the blue elements at once within a pxm and copy/paste them into Photoshop, then apply a -70% saturation on it and paste it back in. If you think the inactive (gray) elements look too close to the active (blue) elements after you desaturate the blue elements then perhaps you can play with the contrast levels on the inactive elements to make them much lighter than the active elements.

Let me know what your thoughts are on this, and if you're still interested in doing the Silver variant. Feel free to contact me on AIM or via email if you want.

Yeah, you did, I thought from the little caption below your screenies that you meant you could select between blue and olive in "general system prefs".
My bad thats all . (smiles). Im tired of using smiley's all the time, I do it way too much so from now on I will type out my emoticon.)
i was just wondering how did you get ichat to have all the whole green look. My version all it has is the titlebar with the olive and the handles are still the normal beige colour

Care to post a screenie? All brushed metal apps should be 100% green where the metal used to be.
Those icons are l33t!
If you guys like the icons, I'll make an Olive version. Let me know, otherwise I'm not going to do it.

There is a system folder icon, even though it isn't in the preview. Must have spaced it....
Make the olive version.

Oh, btw, can you make the open folder icon too?
OK, I'll make the olive version and I'll add in the Open Folder icon.
I've switched to this wonderful theme. BUT would it be possible to have blue pulldown menus with white lettering? The old white/black clashes, no?

Roberto
I love the blue version but i have one complaint. The scrolling bar is too light. I have trouble seeing it when i am doing things quickly. But i have a feeling if you were to change it, it would look bad.

Thanks so much.. That was my biggest complaint - no icons.
No problem. I'm glad you like them. Other than a few icons here and there, this is my first icon set. I was hoping people would dig 'em.
wow, i just woke up... and wagmedia, all i can say is 'omg'... your icons are freaking awesome man! thanks for taking the time to make 'em!

that may be a good idea, i don't know yet... but i will give it a try soon and see how it looks.

as for the scrollbars, i don't know what else i can try... i've had many different versions but it seems they never turn out to where people actually like them, heh. the last scrollthumbs had a nice blue hue around the outer edges so you could easily see where the thumb was, how far it stretched, etc... but there were a lot of requests for the real Watercolor scrollbars (the MS ones) which is what i ended up using... maybe i'll try adding a blue hue to the thumb again but base it off of the current scrollbars.

thanks for all the feedback guys!

Thanks CarbonG4 for the kind words. I just really dug the theme and thought some people might want some icons.

What I would like to see is a variation with the menu bar being the light cream color and the menus being blue. i was thinking of mocking one up, but didn't have the time. Maybe I'll be able to after Christmas.
This is the first time I am going to take an entire theme to completion. I have been defeated by the amount of 'repeats' before.
Anyway here is a Shot of progress so far (click for enlargement)

Where do change the Colours of the menu hi-lights in ThemePark?
I am attempting more of a popper port with this than a 'feeling of'
Lots of stuff left though yet.
I'm not a fan of the Olive version...just because I don't like green that much.

BUT, I do love grey and Mediaman_12, you're grey Watercolor version looks brilliant. Fantastic work so far. I really hope to see a download soon...maybe Christmas.

24...FOX...Tuesdays
The gray version is looking great!
Go for it Mediaman.
This variation would allow me to actually use Watercolor in my PB, since the Blue and Olive versions are way too colorful to design with.
My Silver version of Watercolor is almost compleate. The only bit's left to do is the textured window stuff. I have changed the 'Metal'pxm's from the Extras.rsrc in ThemePark. The widgets remain unchenged, and I have no idea where the flat colour is located?

I still think that the interior of the actual scrollbar should just be a very light blue. That would help distinguish it from the rest of the window but still keep it low-key enough.

I agree, the scroll bar thumb should be a lighter shade of the color of the theme variarion. That way it would still had that clean flat look and it would also de distinguishable.
