Theme: Project Rook
updated below
Ok, here it comes.
This is a theme I set out to create after taking inspiration from the Industech Icons by Adam Betts.
The whole purpose is to integrate this as well into Aqua as possible because i hate 'incomplete' looks.
So, any app that uses non-standard Aqua widgets will only need to have items color corrected for the most part, yet the over all feel will be very un-Aqua.
Expect a rough beta in about 10 days.
This is really more of a sneaky-peek to let you all know something different is in the works.

Cheers!

Definitely a cool start Zaz. A few notes from my perspective are:
Resize the Apple menu logo so it doesnt touch the top or bottom it looks uncomfortable.
I wouldn't use any topbottom lines on the menu item selections, in some instances they are a different vertical height which results in an inconsistent variance.
I think you could probably choose a better color for the gradients which better suggests "industrial".
But these are just my personal impressions, youve obviously got a direction you want to go with so take my opinions with a grain of salt and see what ya get.
Just please, complete this one
, its going to fill a void in OSX theme options.

zazou: Looks cool. I like those Inustrial icons that Adam released. Some of the suggestions from Swiz sounds cool. I look forward to testing out your theme.

A given. Probably wont even be an Apple in the end.

Noticed that here to. Will fix that for sure.

Do you mean the Grey areas or the 'Aqua-ish'areas? Prob with this is that very few colors work well with the obligitory black text.

I apreciate that, thanks. Like I mentioned, I want this to play nice with all the 3rd party Aqua garbage easily (iChat & iCal buttons, etc). That means some elements won't change too much for 1.0. They next version would break from that angle.
Thanks for the kind words!
Regarding the Gradients Zaz, I was speaking of the colored gradients, liike the titlebars and menu selections. I dont have any specific ideas for them, just that it would e a good place to do a little experimenting. I'd do some web searching on keywords like industrial and the like to see what type of imagery starts popping up. Or maybe just use higher contrast gradient maps to get them to "pop" a little more. When I think of Industrial, I think hard, sharp edges, heavy duty, not pretty but workmanlike. Industrial speaks to me as "macho". This theme should sweat .heh.
i like it! but, i have a hard time getting with the gradients of the menus.. maybe make the gradients more subtle?
i like how the window looks like it has been built from a junkyard and molded together...nifty, if i say so

If you resize the item select pxm resource to 22 pixels hight, the selection wont repeat itself.

Will it reamin consisten with normal menu items and the "Apple menu" items? Thats the only place I ever ran into the inconsistencies. I never messed around trying to troubleshoot it though.

Yes it will be consistent. If you resize the resource it will show the extra pixels in the resource, instead of tiling it. So if you make the bottom the same color as the background, you will have a consistent look.
Looks really cool! You might want to consider copying the three different screwheads in my old Titanium theme (see my signature block below) instead of having three identical screw heads for your widgets. I love your theme though..... so nice to see something really different!
looking really cool!
just one comment. I think the orangish "aqua" parts would do better to be yellow to match the industrial icons. Or maybe even just fill them in with a metal texture.

SO, I am guessing this would not be the first theme attempt that got scrapped and totally redone. Aqua just got to be a pain and it wasn't 'speaking too me. I also felt it was getting away from my original intent... and that was a tribute to the IndusTech Icons.
So, it was, as said, scrapped. Then reborn.
Here are the initial results in working form. Tabs and scrolls are also just short of done... buttons I am still wroking on and I will put up 'candidates' hopefully this weekend.

Feedback, please!

Now this theme I like. I suggest maybe adding black to the endcaps (both titlebar and menubar), the icons had some black in it. Also, make the zoom button a + sign and make the current zoom button sign...the toolbar sign.
much better! I didnt think it was possible to incorporate the diagonal black and yellow lines into the window titlebar, but you've done it!

Tried that... makes the bars too busy. not much room to work in there (only 6 pxls on either side of the Root menu). Maybe an edit on the image posted as a suggetstion?

Good call. However. the toolbar doesn't have an 'over state' so there isn't much of a reason to have it after it is 'pressesd.' I will work with that a bit and see what comes up.
I like this a lot! My only suggestion is that you change the background of "dropped down" menus. The pinstripes don't really go with the rest of the "industrial" feeling, in my opinion.
Can't wait for a release!

Even better than the original one. Sweet!

Upon seeing your second screenshot I actually said out loud "Now THAT's cool."
I like the red menu selections. We have too many themes where there is only one color variation apart from the grey or white overall feel. Refreshingly unique.

1) in the title bar buttons, remove that little bit that extends below the rest. im referring the the niche under the minimize button.
2) try using the yellow/black stripes from isync. i think they look a bit nicer than yours. (theres another thread around here about that)
3) something about the "bolts"(dots) just looks wrong to me. not sure what though. might just be the image compression.
otherwise, nice looking theme. especially the red highlights.

Look much better! Now it looks like a original theme instead of a aqua variation. Hard to come with any suggestions though, because of the low quality of the image. Only thing I could think of is that you could resize the apple menu resoure so the apple does not look so cramped.
What about, instead of the gradient on the menu bar, use scanlines like on the menu. Maybe a dark red but opacity down to about 10%.
Sweet a theme that would work perfectly with industritech

Any progress?

Very, very sweet! I also like the desktop background, do you have a link to a download for it?
Going slower than i would like, but at least forward. Lacking inspiration adn motivation right now.
My intent is to make teh Graphite version a Green Variation... though not sure to what extent beyond the widgets
here is where other elements stand.
I am really have a difficult time getting the detail i want into such small spaces.

And here is the Desktop 1280x1024

It looks like it's coming along nicely! Building themes is a tedious labor of love! Keep up the good work! And thanks for posting the desktop.

)Take your time Zaz, its looking VERY nice.
ba ba ba BUMP
Sorry, I know it's a really old thread but I was really impressed by this one. Any updates?

bump, not really for reason
This will get released... but I am not even going to try to speculate on when.
My wife developed a few pregnancy related issues that has had my attention for the last couple of weeks and I have also been quite busy with clients. Things have returned to normal now.
I have a mish-mashed version together, but there are enough missing pieces to make it annoying.
I porbably should have tackled something less complex for a first theme.!
So, it is coming... kinds like Q6.
Bet I beat them!

Max's Brushed was the theme that got me to install Duality a while back, when this theme comes out I may have to go ahead and reinstall it to give your theme a shot. Very nice!!

Hope everything is ok with your wife zazou.
Has anyone else not forgotten about this theme? The later versions were looking pretty cool... I hope it gets released.

Ditto on that!

Just one thing. I don't like Themes that make menu items look glossy. I'd prefer a solid color.
Not that I'll use this theme. Just not my style. I'm making my own from scratch. But it's themes like these that make me glad to be a Mac user.

It is going... but very slow.
In retrospect, i jumped the gun posting about it.
I think I will just have to do a marathon weekend throw-down and get it out soon.
Thanks for the push...

THe second one is pretty slick. I'd suggest changing the red/green to gray or something like that.
I really like the theme! I would love to be a beta-tester and I could help on touching up.
You have my permission to label it as Industech if you want. If you need anything (photoshop files, etc). please feel free to IM me anytime at TheBettsBoy
BTW, Industech v.2 will be one of the entries in IconFactory's Pixelpalooza

Yes, I can't wait to get this. Please make this one available soon.

I liked the stiripes behind the widgets and the collapse toolbar button

Nice Industrial-Tech style theme. I like how it is not all black or dark grey YEAH!, we really need a light colored Industrial-Tech theme.
