Okay... I don't normally do this stuff.... but I just love being on the cutting / hacking edge!

In order to remove the brushed look you'll need two apps from Unsanity, here's the links:

Very NICE! I totally like the one with brushed metal. Very beautiful!

In the Aqua one (non metal), it looks like you should move the buttons down some. Not that hard:

Resize the window by 20 pixels or so (you can do this from the Inspector palette in IB).
Do a select all to grab all the items inside teh window, and then drag it down until there is a nice space from the titlebar and the top buttons. Then resize the window untill it is snug on the bottom of the status bar.

Also don't forget to change the Download.nib file also (so the download window is non metal if thats your fancy)

Thats what I did, and it really looks great.

Or if you have Apple's devtools installed and don't trust 'haxies'*, you could:

1. Go to Safari.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj
2. Open up Browser.nib and Downloads.nib
3. Select each window in the Interface Builder window and turn off 'Textured Window'

* I trust haxies, but only have WindowShade X w/APE 1.1 installed, because it is fricking essential. I've also heard some bad things about APE 1.2.

How did you make the location bar rounded? Is that done in interface builder, cause I couldn't seem to change it?

The location and search bar made up of images. Do a 'show package contents' on Safari and take a look, you just have to rename copys of the rounded search ones.
The only problem with the rounded bar is that square icons will stick over of the edge.

My only interface gripe with Safari (besides no tabs) is that why didn't they use a standard toolbar!!!

I think if they made the interface similar to mails it will rock!

I think they chose not to use it so they can make toolbar much smaller to save space. That's why buttons are so close to titlebar. I don't think it would be possible in NSToolbar but I could be wrong.

I agree. Just switched from Max's Milk theme to his Brushed theme. The Brushed theme is a perfect complement to the brushed look of Safari. I know some people don't like the brushed apprearance, but I LOVE it!

And I agree that if they had made the icons without the frames around them it would look even better (like Mail in the Brushed theme). But Adam has a point, it might look too crowded if it were any closer together than the layout in Mail. However, I put the toolbar icons in Mail next to those in Safari and they are almost identical in size. So it could still work. Man, I'm really enjoying that my browser looks like my other metal apps.

I've added a Square version...

The file has been updated and is now 266K, which includes four screenshots of the Round vs. Square.

I'm actually liking the square version....
