America is made for Chistians!?!?! Software 34 posts Mar 31, 2003 — Apr 2, 2003
This is what another member posted in response to a post of mine in another thread. I'd like your opinions of it.

As soon as you opened your mouth in this thread, Rob, I knew it would some how go to hell in a handbasket and end up in a flame war. I bit my tongue really hard to avoid responding to you and having it end up as it has but enough is enough! You have no idea how freakin angry I am right now at your sheer ignorance and insulance.

PS: I think a country that was set up without religon would do great. I won't get into it in this thread though, as it would tarnish the message.

Two responses. First, it's been done before. It was called the Soviet Union and it failed miserably. If you still would like to try, move to China or Cuba...PLEASE! This country was founded by Christians who demanded the freedom to practice said Christianity. It is a Christian nation and was created to be one from the get go. Start your education all over again from grade 1 and get a clue. Second, you're too late. It's already been tarnished by your second post, if not by the first one.

I just meant that, you know how most people consider Mormons kinda weird? Well, when you guy are 'preaching' I feel the same way. Kinda blocks who you really are, that feeling does.

Kinda blocks who we are??? IT IS WHO WE ARE!

Quote:

errrgh. Can you guys quit using 'god' all the time? It makes you seem like freaky deaky bible thumpers. Just say 'good luck' or something. errr. yeah.

To quote Aredub...NO!

I went to farm and fleet, to purchase some Mobil 1, but no, they close at 5pm. DOH!

Again...get a clue! It was the Hebrews who came up with that one. Remember the commandment "Keep holy the Sabbath"? That means that no work is to be done on Sunday. It is traditionally a day of prayer out of respect for God. Jesus did not invent the whole "silly" thing just to piss you off. But he just might be wishing he did right about now.

so I didn't have to get involved in any future religous crusades/jihads.

This is not a war about religion. It is an attempt to free a nation from the rule of an abusive leader who tortures and kills people who look at him the wrong way or speak their mind and who provides financial and weapon support to terrorists. Why you might ask? To keep demented lunatics from killing ignorant, yet innocent, people like you without reason or provocation.

Randy, I am not sure what thread editing abilities you have but I would appreciate it if you could remove ca$h's posts from this thread as well as this one and others that reference his posts so that this thread can be returned to it's intended, untarnished purpose. If not I fear that ca$h will find himself a recipient of more than one very painful visit from military type people who would be happy to track him down. While I am shocked at this new level of his social and political ignorance (I know I shouldn't be), I truly do not want this to turn out heading down the path I am afraid I already see it heading down. Please stop it before it is too late by deleting his posts.

PS: GOD, GOD, GOD, GOD, GOD, GOD...

I've been dying to say that ever since he opened his !@#$%^&* mouth
What happens when an immovable object is hit by an irresistible force?

FWIW I agree with you, Ca$h. No country should be based on any religion. The division between religion and executive is one of the most important guarantors of personal liberty and freedom.
It is a Christian nation and was created to be one from the get go.

While I am a Christian many early founding fathers were theists or deists and didn't think much of Christianity. Clearly there was an intention of freedom from religion. While this nation is basically Christian, that comes from the fact that most Americans are Christian. Yet every religious group has contributed to the whole. We are definitely more than the sum of our parts and all faiths (and even atheists) are part of that whole.
Whatever happened to the multi-cultural nation or the melting-pot? Aren't we supposed to be tolerant of other peoples views? Thats what democracy is really about..

America is turning facist.
So far as I know America isn't turning "facist" by imposing religion. If anything the separation between church and state is stronger now than it has been at any other time.

I always get a kick out of people who see a controversy and think the country is turning either facist or socialist (depending upon ones political view)

Don't get me wrong. There are things to worry about. I was very upset at the way DEA and other organizations would impound homes, cars and other materials of suspected drug dealers without full course of law. Often the people would be found innocent but it would be years before they'd get their property back (if at all). A lot of people were coming down hard on that prior to 9/11. My worry is that with the much needed security bills some of these abuses of property by the government may increase rather than decrease. There are other such items in the country.

But overall, I'd consider myself safer from the government and have a better chance of exercising my rights now than I would in the 1960's, the 1930's or any time in the 19th century.

While we, as a populace, need to remain vigilant, there are too often cries of "the sky is falling." People need to take a deep breath, take a step back, look at the big picture, and then try to improve the system. My own view is that the country is a work in progress and we've not yet attained the ideals that the founding fathers caught a glimpse of when establishing the nation's foundations.
The USSR wasn't "set up" as a religion-less state. They took a very large population that was Russian Orthodox and told them that their religion was illegal.

And ca$h - what do you do when your parents tell you not to do something? You go right out there and do it.

IMO it'd be easier to teach a cow to tap dance than to get a single religious person to 'convert' to atheism.

Get your facts straight before you start on a rant. And I have to ask - you have never before seemed even remotely religious - what gives? You got some girl that sings in the choir or something?
Wazzamatter, ca$h? decided there hasn't been enough anti-christian material on these boards for a while?

as far as ca$h is concerned, there can't be enough.

as far as everyone else is concerned:

get over it already.

He wasn't exactly clear, but everything between the first and last lines are a quote.

I never said it was. I was the one IN the quotes. The responses to the quotes was the person I'm concerned about. As far as I can tell, America was NOT created by CHristians for Christians.

As for me being religous, I'll turn the question around. Why SHOULD I be religous?

-Ca$h

PS: Lerk, this isn't an anti-christian thread. Some christian guy told me America was for Christians, and I'm calling his BS.
I'm with ca$h on this one. (waits for massive earthquake or unscheduled total eclips)

The US was colonized by persecuted Christians, but the over-riding goal was freedom from state-ponsored religion. At the time, it didn't necessarily mean much outside of a Christian context because it was a Christian culture. But the mechanisms were set down to help evolve past that.

We are not a Christian country, nor should we be. We are (or should be) a country where a diversity of beliefs are respected and tolerated.
This country as a whole, has more Christians than any other religion. That would tell me this country is a Christian nation that is tolerant of other beliefes.

agreed. I have always argued for the complete separation of church and state.

It tells me that this is a country that has more Christians than any other religion. Its also a country that has more caucasions than any other ethnic group, but it is not a "white" country....

I wanted to write my own reply to Zim's comment - but you've done a better job already.
Eh, I have on many occasions heard America being described as the land of the White Christians. Meant as a insult no doubt.

This country has all kinds of races. But the thing that is similar between all the races is most do indeed practice Christianity.

This county is known to be a "Infidel" filled country. Not because we are white, but because we are mostly Christian.

Infidel = non-muslim. That leaves a lot of wiggle room.

I guess having our money saying "In God We Trust" has nothing to do with it either.

While I don't think America was "made" for Christians, I think it's safe to say most of America is made up of Christians, and it is indeed mostly a Christian country.

You've side-stepped the point.

Or are you saying that it would be correct to define the United States as a "White" country?

If you are, say so clearly.

Because that's *exactly* the same logic as calling it a "Christian" country.

-s*
Not really, as we have Christians of ALL races in this country.
Sorry ca$h - didn't mean to call you religious. I mis-read the original post.

Hows the car going? Mine is about to end it's 3 year warranty so it is in for a service next week - can't believe I have had it that long already.

You are incredibly dense. Makes arguing with you very frustrating.

I did not say that Christians are whites, I was saying that calling America a "Christian" country because its population is predominantly Christian is like calling America a "White" country because its population is predominantly white.

Do you understand the difference?

So, would you call America a "White" country?

I knew what you were saying, no need for the silly chest pounding personal attacks. I was just saying, there was a difference between say, race, which you have no real choice of, and Religion, which is a choice. You can't really compare the two.
I would say we are a Judo-Christan country... 100%.

If your something else, you are constantly battling. Athiests know this as well... just for "not being anything"....

There is a Separation between chruch and state. But the separation is far from complete.

I'm not.

I'm comparing the labelling of something based upon the characteristics of a majority.

And you *can* compare the two in this case, since the religion makes no difference to being "American" (due to separation of church and state), any more than the race (due to all men being created equal).

However, by calling the United States a "Christian" nation, you're essentially marginalizing any non-Christian as not strictly American.

Which is why I ask you: Would you call America a "White" country?

What is a Chistian?

Actually, if you want to be technical, infidel is a relative term. When spoken by a Muslim, it means non-Muslim. When spoken by a Christian, it means non-Christian. And so on, and so forth; the basic meaning is "one who does not follow the religious beliefs of the point of view the speaker is using".

Currently, it seems to be a fashionable term among fundamentalist Muslims. It was popular in Christianity too, for a while.

You know what's interesting? Every religion seems to go through this militaristic phase when it gets to be about 1300-1500 years old. Islam's going through it now. Christianity went through it at that age. If we reach back through the Old Testament, Judaism would appear to have gone through a similar phase. I'm not up enough on the history of Hinduism to know if it did (but I'd guess it probably did). I don't think Buddhism as we currently know it is old enough to have gone through this particular phase, though it's had its own share of warriors in the past. I wonder why this is. Why 1500 years?
