Final Fantasy XI Online

I speak and read Japanese, and have played all my Final Fantasy Series (Japanese) games in Japanese; I lived in Japan between 1979 and 1989, and teach Japanese at a major language center.

Therefore, if I do buy it, I'll only purchase the Japanese version.

But I don't think I'll play it, because I don't like network games. I did, however, really enjoy playing every other Japanese-version Final Fantasy RPG except for the Japanese FF III, which I haven't had an opportunity to play yet. My personal favorites were Final Fantasy IX (Japanese) and Final Fantasy Tactics (Japanese). My favorite character was (and still is, and perhaps will always be) Vivi Ornitier, the 9-year-old wizard from Final Fantasy IX.

I already own a Japanese PS2.

Besides, often the translation from Japanese into English comes out poorly, and I prefer reading in the original Japanese.

Uh...FFXI has been out in Japan for like a year. Square's translation department is top notch. No Engrish here.

I didn't realize it was coming so soon. I'm definitely going to get it.

I'm only a casual Japanese follower of the Japanese Final Fantasy Japanese series. I'm not a Japanese big fan of MMPORGs, Japanese either.

Honestly, I think that Japanese the FF series has gone downhill since Japanese 6.

Maybe I'm just old fashioned, Japanese I guess.

Mostly because I wanted an excuse to slip the word 'Japanese' in between every other word I used.

That, and I'm an anti-FMV kinda guy. They make the plot a little too restricted, changing an RPG in to a faux choose your own adventure movie. The trick is that you aren't really choosing your own adventure.

Another way to put it is that I don't like to play an FMV scavenger hunt. FMVs are fine if they facilitate the plot and aren't too jarringly different from the game. FMVs suck if they are the plot, and the game is what you do in between for distraction.

All just my opinion, though.

Heh, I guess you forget about FFVII, not engrish, but funny grammer.

Also, I would love to get it, but I don't have time for a MMORPG. I will definetly get XII though.

Oh, and X-2, that looks totaly silly to me.

Actually, it looks silly, but the reviews say that it's actually pretty damn good. I have it on preorder.

When does X2 come out?

I actually purchased the Japanese version of Final Fantasy X-2 in March through an acquaintance, and even got the Yuna keychain as a bonus for having it pre-ordered in Japan.

However, I've been so busy with work and setting up my new 17-inch PowerBook [Rev. A] that I haven't yet had time to finish up the prequel, Final Fantasy X.

Well i thought i'd bump this topic seeing as the PS2 version is a little over a week away.
I have the PC version, but man, my PC blows hard ass...so i can't wait to get the PS2 version. Is anyone else getting the game? if so what server will you be on/are you on.

The game truely is a marvel in both graphics and job system.

If so, I agree. I recently played a trial version as a guest at the local web2zone� Internet caf� (unfortunately, the free trial reportedly expired on Saturday, March 6, 2004, although users with currently valid accounts can still play).

It was marvelous! I started out as a Tarutaru Red Mage in The Republic of Bastok, but immediately got picked upon by a mean Galka Non-Player Character (NPC), who told me to "go back to where I came from." Apparently, he had thought I had come from The Federation of Windurst, home of the Tarutaru. Fortunately, another NPC (of whose race I'm unsure) told me not to worry about that guy. Then I tried to purchase some armor and weapons, but the first store that I visited only carried Hume and Galkan items. Then I went to the local Mog House in the residential areas. A friendly Moogle explained the Mog House system, and asked me to bring some furniture to make the place look less barren.

Once I wandered outside again, another Player Character (PC) asked me why I had a funny-looking flag next to my name, hovering above my character. I smiled, and explained that I was using a guest account. Unfortunately, then the caf� had to close, so that Player Character and I waved at each other, and I logged out.

Next time, I don't plan to start out in Bastok as a Tarutaru. I want to be a Tarutaru because of the high facility with magic, but would like to be able to equip my character with armor/weapons more easily, so I'll probably start out in Windurst, and then travel to The Grand Duchy of Jeuno, where there are fewer Galka and more Tarutaru than Bastok, after purchasing suitable weapons. I'll probably ask a Mithra Monk to escort me along the way, since traveling all the way there along could be risky. Since the way is not clear, I'll just search the Internet for a suitable map and use it to get there.

I earnestly wish that Square Enix U.S.A. would port this MMORPG to the Mac. In my opinion, there is a day/night difference between the overall quality of this experience and most other MMORPG's.
