My last name is Srstka... now you know why I just abbreviate it to S! No one can spell it or pronounce it.

The nickname of one of my dogs.

Back in the days when I started on Compuserve with a Psion 3a terminal and 2,400 modem, I needed a username for the chat rooms. It asked me for one quite unexpectedly and I couldn't think of anything.
There was an invoice from a local print company sitting on my desk: "Sherwin Rivers".

First four letters = My name

But the correct pronunciation is seal-lobo, not sea-lobo.

One time, at band camp (no, really!), some friends and I went into the commons area of the college that was running the camp (Luther College, in Decorah, IA). We didn't want to eat in the caf, so we looked around for an alternative. There was a little cafe/restaurant thing called "Oneota."

The name that I usually used at this time all over the 'Net was "Jawz," which was my initials (JAW) plus a "z". But I around this time, I was starting to get spam and wanted a username/email address that I could treat as a throw-away for various things. I registered oneota@hotmail.com and started using it for stuff that I didn't care about.

Gradually, the Oneota username started getting used for more things, and Jawz started getting used for fewer. I don't have the hotmail address anymore, but I still use the username 'cause it sounds cool.

I later learned that Oneota is the name of a Native American tribe who once inhabited the north-eastern area of Iowa (where Luther College is situated).

Valeria Messalina was my name in latin class in high school (wow this makes me dorky) and i'm still a classics major, so it works I guess. But Valeria Messalina was married to Emperor Claudius, she was kinda a bitch (which i didn't find out until AFTER choosing the name), slept around the Roman imperial court and eventually was executed after Claudius discovered she'd been plotting to kill him. Whoops.

"Splyph" (Spliff) is my cat's name. I'm a girl. Kinda went from there.

I picked my online alias way back in 2000 and have transferred it from forum to forum so peoples that read across the various ones I frequent will know it's me. Why "Zimmerman?
Well, I like the way it rolls off the tounge, its neatly abbreviated, "Zimm," and I wanted a letter towards the end of the alphabet. It has no personal meaning, though.

Got the nickname in college because I wore boots most of the time. Not the pythons in my sig, but the brown ones hiding behind the longhorns on the left. Yes, those are my longhorns too. I have them mounted over the bar in my basement.

The quote in the sig is from the stage-show "Red White and Tuna" ... the third installment of the Greater Tuna saga....

I love canoe-tripping. The picture in my sig is of a lake in Algonquin Park in Ontario. So I took the name voyageur, from the French-Canadian trappers and explorers who went all through the North Woods in their canoes.
Although someone more knowledgeable in French than I has told me the feminine form should be "voyageuse".

Back in the days when Final Fantasy VIII was brand-new, I used to have the nickname "Squall". But soon I realized that this nickname sucked so I's looking for something new, something unique.

So I came up with D'Espice, the first dungeon in Ultima IX Ascension (aaaah... what a great game) gave me the idea and I liked the idea of my nickname sounding kinda like "to despise"
But I don't wanted it to be that obvious so I "internationalized" (fancy talk for French ) it a little bit, changed the second s to c and that's the day ol' D'Espice was born.

Oooh magical sweater-vests! I don't have one. I want one! I do have a cute red one, though..

Maybe my user name sounds a lot like my real name but it's not the case. It's random letters placed in a specific order that coincidentally spell my name. I guess I was lucky.

Basically what Matt said. The symbol "e^(ix)" is defined for any real x as "cos(x) + i sin(x)", where "i" denotes the imaginary number "square root of (-1)", and is known as Euler's formula.

e^(i pi) = cos(pi) + i sin(pi)
e^(i pi) = -1 + i * 0
e^(i pi) = -1

Also, by using simple trig you'll see that e^(ix) holds for products and quotients by simply writing Euler's formula in polar form, i.e., z=r*e^(ix). You can get some cool results but nothing cooler than the statement on my sig
