Did they even make 8MB 30pin SIMM's? That would have been an ungodly amount per stick back in the day. Not too mention very expensive. I once paid $300 for a 4MB stick.

I think if you boot it up while connected to an external screen, it will work. Unfortunately, my clamshell's sound/video is completely fried so I can't verify it for sure.
