Did you try just a K6-2 fan, or a K6-2 heat sink and fan?

Only the fan screwed to the original B&W rev.2 Heatsink.
If I get a heatpiped one, I'm afr…

It would take some sheet or metal bar work, but you might consider trying to mount some of the modern heat pipe equipped …
Hi,
As I told in other posts, I use a B&W G3 with G4 zif from Yikes! 400 at 450mhz (trying 500mhz still). I followed the voltage tweaking guide to achieve 500mhz by settin…

Thanks for all the responses. [] ]'>
The ROM on my B&W G3 CD is 1.4, and on the 'retail' CD it is 1.6. Unfortunately neither one will boot my G4.
When running th…

well, I did a bit of digging, and I found someone with a similar issue here:

looks like it might just be a power issue …

According to Mactracker, the sawtooth did come with 8.6 originally, but later came with Mac OS 9.0. It also says it needs Mac OS ROM 2.5.1.
I would love a sawtooth running 8.6 It …

I haven't a clue where 1983 came from (other than from my fingers), but 2003 would make a good alternative with a little more credibility.
As for the prototype status of the iMac,…
Is there any way to get 8.6 running on the G4 using these CDs or am I basically screwed without the original?

AFAIK, that's a version unique to the sawtooths…

if you really want the best video card go for a flashed Radeon 9800 with 256MB VRAM or a flashed GeForce 7 series card.
the 9800 gets pretty hot compared to the geforce cards. so …
OK, this is getting really frustrating. I pulled out a SCSI CD drive (actually a burner), and I managed to boot off that (even with no terminator). I used my 9.2.2 CD. With all the…

I recently purchased a first generation "Sawtooth" G4 - 400mhz model with AGP graphics. It was refurbished and came with MacOS 10.3 pre-installed, but the original MacOS 8.6 instal…

Thats really quite interesting, equill. Yes, i am still using the original transparent Apple power cable with it. I might have to have a look at the plug and check that its in good…
Don't, without deliberate testing, discount the rôle of the Mac's mains cable in all this. I have had a Snow 500 iMac since new. It has now been always-on since about 1983 but fo…
... But, what all are you wanting to do with it? If you just want it for "2d" stuff, then your 7500 is perfectly acceptable. If you want it for Core Image stuff, then a Radeon 96…
An ATI Radeon 9800 is, I believe, the best video card that was released for that Mac. There was an X800 released, but it requires the 8X AGP slot of the Power Mac G5, so won't wor…

Well you're not going to believe this, but it seems to have come back to life again. I just sat down with it and tried various arrangements of CPU, motherboard and RAM. Eventually …

Hmm, well now this is odd. I tried the direct method once more with the 24x, and it opened just fine, but did not close. I then plugged the molex into the other cable to go to all …

OK, so I double checked the jumper settings. Then I unplugged the IDE cable on the CD-ROM, still nothing. So, I had a hunch, and unplugged the master molex cable, and plugged it di…
