Egads, you're correct! There's a "convert for iPod" option in the Advanced menu! This is new... iSquint works excellently, by the way, and is free.

isquint has made some crappy conversion of some avi files I had. Most were movies that I downloaded as torrents.

Mutt and Pine (the only two text-based email clients I can think of) both support IMAP and Gmail (which is just POP3).

And for older Macs running older System / Mac OS versions you can rely on the iCab browser.
