Update. Got OS X Server 10.1 on my Beige G3, and now in ASP, it shows "Target Disk" on the FireWire Bus. However, no disk appears on desktop.

I can't remember the game — #1

I am trying to remember an old Apple II game I had a long time ago. It was an adventure game, and it took place in a giant city in a tree. People wore these capes they could glide …

Happy Tenth to the B/W G3! — #4

I've actually used Vista on a PIII Celeron, 800MHz with 512mb of memory. The easiest way to describe it is that it can happen, but that it's maybe not the most pleasant thing ever…

Happy Tenth to the B/W G3! — #2

You can drop a G4 in one of these and use Leopard. That's some pretty good longevity. Kind of like Tiger on a 1996-era 7500 with a G3/G4 card.

getting a Lombard colling fan to spin — #32

There is one other (and cheaper) way of enabling DVD playback on these machines - I have no idea if it would help with AVI files from the HD though. There's a PC Card (PCMCIA/Card…

getting a Lombard colling fan to spin — #30

However the CPU is removable and there are (pricey) G4 upgrades available. I'd suggest doing some more searching about playing AVIs on a Mac before you give up.

G4s in (most) any form are great machines. I'm still rocking out with a dual 500MHz G4 tower as my main desktop, happily chugging away at Leopard. My main portable is also a PowerB…
