nevermind, i got it to work

For the classic Apple monitors, the sense lines are only sampled at power-on time. So fiddling with the switches without power cycling won't give you the "true picture".

hmmm... now my adaptor isnt working again.

I'm having similar problem with my LC III. When I first used it with my Mac ~ VGA adapter, the picture was fine (although it didn't boot up because there was no operating system installed.) I moved the computer to another room, and when I tried again, there was no picture at all. What "switches" are you talking about? My adapter doesn't have any.

I have an old Mac-VGA adapter without switches, and it really is just a VGA adapter, it won't do anything except 640x480.

The adapters "with switches" have a bank of either 6 or 10 DIP switches on them.

Now I'm thinking it might be a power supply issue. I have a Power Mac 8500 that also won't display video, but with the Power Mac the monitors light blinks orange. When I plug the LC in, the fans spin up and then they spin down, and the light on the monitor is solid orange.

green light = turned on, and displaying video.

orange light = turned on but with no video.

And I have no idea what a blinking orange light means.

Possible monitor modes maybe

(a) working and displaying

( B) stand-by

© has signal but cannot use it due to incompatible frequencies

(d) no input detected at all

(e) off

I figured out the problem: it sometimes takes the onboard video a minute ot two (literaly) to initilize on my LC III

Well my problem must be different, because I left it on for about half an hour and nothing happened. I think it might be the power supply, because the hard drive starts to spin, then stops and goes cold. Do you think this is indeed a possibility?

It looks like that your Mac-VGA adapter can't comply with the default res of your VGA monitor, but don't quote me on that.

You're best off finding one with res switches or a DB-15 monitor.

IIRC, there was something funky about the video signal and PRAM batteries on the pizzaboxen. Search posts by Danamania and whatever other teems might be necessary to find the answer in the archives . . .

. . . or send her a PM here and then check her site for info on pizzaboxen a/o other contact info . . .

. . . and tell her that Trash is back and would like her to come back for visit to the barracks!

I've tried it with two different monitors, and neither of them worked. One of them used to work.

A good idea would be trying one you absolutely know works on another system.
