$100 for your iPod...from DELL
Hahahaha, this is insane!!! The player costs $199 + tax, then you hafta wait for a $100 mail in rebate PLUS give them your iPod! This is a HORRIBLE deal regardless of the fact that the Dell DJ blows!

Dude, you're getting desperate?
To make matters worse, Apple is probably very close to releasing new improved iPods (which, I'd presume have better battery life) and that will make this deal even more horrible.
Please somebody explain Dell's reasoning here? That iPod owners secretly hate their iPods and are going to jump at spending another $100 (after rebate) to get rid of their pod and get the new wonderful dell thingy? Is that really what they're saying? I'm missing something right?
Dell says it will "recycle" them...what ever thhat means.

That's about the gist of it.
Not a terrible idea for somebody who has a broken iPod that doesn't work and doesn't have the cash flow for a new iPod, I know plenty of people that have broken their 5gig iPods and their always lookin for ways to fix em, maybe recycling is the answer. If only Apple had a recycle program.
My guess is they are trying to get some iPod users to "switch", specifically those with iPod batteries gone bad.

We should probably keep an eye open for an iPod seller on eBay with the user name 'notdell'.

Either way, isn't it cheaper to get a new Battery... even through Apple?
God if only Apple would do the same with all the p.o.s. Dell hardware out there.
And Apple could even use their retail stores to this effect. Come in with any piece of crap Dell and get $100 off a shiny new iMac...

I got a 10 gig with a failed hard drive, I wonder if I can send it to them and somehow make a profit reselling the Dell crap on eBay?

I'd try that, too (as long as the Dell dudes accecpt the iPod with the failed drive, that is)
How does Dells 15gb and 20gb jukebox hold 7000 and 9000 songs respectively while the iPod holds 3500 and 5000 using AAC?

Lots of 30 second songs
Well... you do know about the floating point problems on Dells.... right?

You mean "respectively." But besides that, 15GB is 15GB. Once you start quoting the number of songs, you have to make assumptions regarding song length and bit rate. Doing some math, I've calculated that Dell is using 64Kbps to get their marketing numbers, while Apple is using 128Kbps.

Poor market research. Proving once again that if it isn't something that you mass produce cheap, Dell has no prayer of understanding. The concept of style escapes them completely.

We're dying. Watch us bleed.
It's almost a shame I sold mine on eBay, I coulda gotten $100 off a new one, but I got $300 for an old one
ive got a 5GB iPod that still functions perfectly. no way in hell i would sell it for a hundred dollars.
a quick search of ebay shows me not many other 5GB ipods going for 100 either.

I wonder what Dell plans to do with all of those old iPods they'll be getting... ok, maybe the 3 that they will be getting?

Right in the "circular filing cabinet"... I wouldn't ever give up my iPod for a Dell Jukebox... what are they thinking?
Apple should retaliate, and offer a $50 rebate on Dell units. This would be a clear indication of value, with Dell valueing the iPod at $100 and Apple viewing the Dell at only $50
Besides, you can easily get more than 100 on eBay even for an original 5Gb iPod
