Living in china there is lots of opportunity to try more exotic foods, sweet and sour snake, deep fried scorpions and duck intestines are the wierdest I have tried.

That's actualy pretty pedestrian compaired to what I could eat if I had the guts.

whats your wierdest cullanary experience?
meat. ergh.
roasted grasshoppers.......taste a lill bit salty.....
Pig Ear sandwich.

1) Cook pig ear
2) Slap pig ear on white bread, cover liberally with mustard.
3) savory the slimey goodness.

It really was quite nasty.

Also ate live red ants. Not bad, you put 'em between your molars and they kinda 'pop'. They taste almost sweet. Not very filling, tho.
Peanut Butter & Jelly
Ants in the amazon jungle... they tasted of lemon due to some tree or another they were harvesting from...
Natto, an unforgettable experience of disgust.
I have even tried twice. Yak.
Bat wing. It was during a vacation when I was in a small town in Sichuan province during a trip to China. I passed on the cow brain though and had seconds of the frog legs.
Durian would come quite close.

I loved that gooey stuff. Best breakfast in the world: Natto, rice, raw egg...

Not disgusting, but when I'd go camping we'd make pine tea.
Sour ram testicles.

Fermented shark.

I don't recommend either.

Never had yak.

How was it?

Oh, and I forgot one thing that many foreigners find weird.

Whale meat. Highly recommend you try it if you have the chance. Best steaks I've ever tasted.
Probably Jellyfish. It was cut in a way so that it looked like a gummi worm, but it tasted disgusting.
buffalo hamburgers, when i was still eating meat.

pretty tasty if iirc.

Inferior quality then.

If you can't easily bite right through it, it's not fresh.

Indeed. Squid sushi is delicious.

I wasn't so hot on the uni (sea urchin roe) sushi. It was like a chunk of tan stuff that turned to creamy goo the second you bit down on it. :-/

I've had alligator (=gummy chicken) and ostrich (delicious). Frog legs rock -- but don't buy the French ones. In France, they take little frogs and rip their legs off without killing it first. I prefer the American frog legs, where they kill a BIG frog and then cut its legs off.

Octopus! Didn't like that at all.

Raw squid is rubbery.
Raw Octopus is rubbery & crunchy at the same time. Both are savory.

Sea Urchin is nasty. Like eating someone else's seafood vomit.

Alligator is a novelty food. To fiberous. Rattlesnake is another novelty food, and about the same as alligator. Both are the kind of things that only get brought up in discussions like this one.

And frog legs absolutely rock.
Roasted locusts after a swarm in Madagascar.

Just like sashimi, prawns, crab, lobster, most edible birds, and my favorite, good ol' American beef. Ever see a film of how cows are slaughtered?

Yes, that's what "roe" means.

It's basically sea urchin caviar.

It's also quite delicate, and I really liked the uni sushi I've had.
