Personally, I can't stand Flash-heavy websites. They drive me nuts. I'm old school. I love elegant web pages that utilize nothing more than text, image, and links.

Check out this site: http://www.thebigsmoker.co.uk/

It won the best design award in the Guardian's British Blog award.
cgtalk.com

yesterday, they reached the 100,000 members point, fantastic.

Yeah, but even on a broadband connection that site takes WAY to long to load... like I want to wait for a load each time I click a link when all I want to read is the dudes bio.

Artistically beautiful, but content definitely takes a backseat IMHO.

Cheers!

Very nice
Take the last 3 letters of your username and add land to it. It's a dot com. I like the Humor section.

That would be THCland.com for me. Can you believe it's not actually a site?

Exactly. Flash is useless for content. I hate animated gifs and midis playing in the background of the site I'm browsing, so why do I want the navigation elements to by flashy and have sound effects?

Don't get me wrong, Flash can be good when it's implemented well [like when making a game or a cartoon (Homestar Runner, I'm looking in your direction)]. But for anything else, straight HTML and CSS is the best.

I get lots of design inspiration from the css Zen Garden
