The Real Bob Oo Patch is a sound modification for Bungie's Marathon, the 1994 Macintosh-exclusive first-person shooter. It targets the Bobs, the friendly civilian crew aboard the UESC Marathon whose distinctive voice clips became a signature of the series, and replaces or augments their sounds.
What it changes
The patch swaps the in-game audio used by Bob NPCs, altering the voice samples players hear when interacting with or accidentally shooting the ship's crew.
Installation
Applied on top of an existing Marathon installation. The patch modifies the sounds resource the engine loads at runtime rather than the executable itself.
Community context
Marathon's open file formats encouraged a steady flow of community sound, map, and shapes patches throughout the late 1990s. Bob mods were a small but persistent subgenre.
Requirements
Requires a working installation of Marathon on classic Mac OS. Distributed as a patch file alongside other Marathon community add-ons.
