Marathon 12 Updt is the v1.2 updater for Bungie's 1994 Marathon, the Mac-exclusive science fiction first-person shooter set aboard the UESC Marathon starship in 2794. The update patches an existing Marathon installation to the final 1.x revision used by most later mods and net play.
About Marathon
Marathon is a pseudo-3D first-person shooter often compared to Doom, but distinguished by its dense terminal-driven storyline, dual-wielding, and mouse looking. Bungie released it for the Macintosh in late 1994, and it became one of the defining Mac action games of the decade.
What the 1.2 update does
The 1.2 patch brings earlier Marathon installations up to the version expected by most third-party maps, shapes patches, and physics models. It is applied to an installed copy of the original game rather than run standalone.
Compatibility
The updater targets the classic Mac OS release of Marathon and is intended for 68k and PowerPC systems running System 7 through Mac OS 9. A separately patched build with QuickTime-friendly music is also distributed by the archive.
