Souls

Souls is shorthand for Castle of Lost Souls, one of two updated Wolfenstein 3D scenarios bundled in this Info-Mac upload by Josh Mills. The pack pairs Castle Xeen with Castle of Lost Souls II, billed by the author as the first two scenarios ever made by the same person who later built Castle Wolfenstein, Wolfenstein Adventures, and Temple of Doom.

Premise

Both scenarios are pure id-style first-person action grafted onto Mac Wolfenstein 3D: corridor combat, secret rooms, and -- as Mills puts it -- pure, raw action for those who crave death and destruction.

Author's framing

Mills explicitly presents the pack as a look back at his own learning curve -- see how I learned to make levels, see all the mistakes I made -- making it as much a designer scrapbook as a playable release.

What's new in this build

The updated versions in this archive add speed and stability fixes over the original 1990s releases, while the original readmes are preserved alongside.

Requirements

The pack is a scenario set, not a standalone game. It requires the full retail version of Mac Wolfenstein 3D to run; players without it were directed to email the author.
