Mutants' Lair is a fan-made scenario for the Macintosh edition of Wolfenstein 3D by Laz Rojas, the prolific author behind dozens of third-party Mac Wolf maps. It packs ten levels themed entirely around Dr. Schabbs and his mutant creations, and is designed to be loaded as an alternate scenario in the original Mac Wolfenstein engine.
Premise
The player is sent on a mission to terminate the infamous Dr. Schabbs, the Nazi scientist responsible for the mutant program from the second episode of the original game. Each floor of the installation is overrun by his demonic creations, and the final level confronts Schabbs himself.
Level design
All ten maps lean into the mutant theme, swapping the standard SS and guard rosters for waves of syringe-wielding mutants in tight, laboratory-style corridors. The pace is heavier and more claustrophobic than the stock Wolfenstein episodes, with ammunition kept deliberately scarce.
Distribution
Originally released for the classic Mac Wolfenstein 3D engine, Mutants' Lair has since been repackaged for the MacenWolf source port so that it can be played on modern systems alongside other Laz Rojas scenarios such as Astrostein and Operation: Eisenmann.
