Trade Wars Guide (also distributed as TW Guide) is a Classic Macintosh helper utility for the venerable BBS door game TradeWars 2002. Version 2.2 was distributed through Info-Mac and processes Computer Interrogation Mode (CIM) reports captured from a TradeWars session to surface ideal trading routes and hiding places for the player's ships.
What it does
The program reads CIM dumps that TW2002 emits and analyzes the sector graph to recommend profitable port-pair trade runs and safe sectors to stash assets in, automating the bookkeeping that competitive TradeWars play otherwise demands by hand.
Why a Mac helper mattered
As TradeWars 2002 evolved from single-node dial-up BBSes into a multi-player Internet game, the player base became increasingly dependent on client-side telnet helpers and scripts. Mac users were largely left out of that ecosystem, which made native helpers like TW Guide essential to staying competitive.
Status
TW Guide is unsupported and considered unlikely to receive further upgrades, but remains useful for Mac players running TW2002 against classic-era servers and is preserved on the Info-Mac mirror at info-mac.org and on Macintosh Garden.
