Bashing Bob is a fan-made modification for Bungie's Marathon series, the Mac-first first-person shooter set aboard the UESC Marathon. The mod targets the colony's hapless civilian "Bobs," reworking sprites, behavior, or sounds so that bashing the orange-jumpsuited NPCs becomes the central gag.
About the mod
Like most Marathon shapes and physics patches of the late 1990s, Bashing Bob is distributed as a small payload meant to be dropped alongside an existing Marathon installation. Players keep the original maps and engine but swap in the modded resources to alter how the Bobs look, sound, or react when struck.
Bobs in Marathon
"Bob" is community shorthand for the Born On Board civilians who populate the Marathon starship. Vanilla Bobs flee, scream, and occasionally fire a sidearm; a long tradition of community mods plays with that behavior, and Bashing Bob fits squarely in that lineage of joke and shock conversions.
Requirements
The mod presupposes a working copy of Marathon for classic Mac OS (System 7 through Mac OS 9). It is not a standalone game and will not run without the original Marathon application and map files.
