Fighting Fantasy Fighter is a HyperCard helper stack by Adrian Gudas (az591@torfree.net) for fans of the Fighting Fantasy gamebook series by Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone. It automates the books' dice-based combat so that readers can resolve battles cleanly without "fudging" rolls, and it can even roll up a fresh adventurer or enemy on demand.
What it does
The stack fights out a Fighting Fantasy battle for the player using the series' standard Skill, Stamina, and Luck mechanics. It can apply Luck to attacks or defenses when the player chooses, and it tracks stats round by round so the printed book can be left undisturbed.
Character generation
Fighting Fantasy Fighter can also roll a new adventurer or generate an enemy on demand, which is useful both for starting a fresh book and for testing tough encounters before committing to them in your own playthrough.
Requirements
Distributed as a HyperCard stack, the program requires HyperCard Player 2.1 or above. It is released as "Letterware": the author asks satisfied users to send him a letter rather than a payment.
Distribution
The file ships as the BinHex archive fighting-fantasy-fighter-hc.hqx in info-mac/game/adv and decodes with BinHex 4.0 or Stuffit Expander.
This file is part of the MacTrove archive. See the Thank You page for the upstream mirrors we rely on. It is BinHex encoded — use The Unarchiver to decode it.
