Quest Of Yipe is a shareware role-playing game for Macintosh by Kevin Kinell of Yipe! Software, released in 1996. Drawing on tabletop dungeons-and-dragons traditions with a humorous twist, it follows a hero defending the town of Yipe from monsters lurking in nearby caves and forms the first chapter of a small trilogy.
Setting
The town of Yipe sits at the edge of monster-haunted wilderness. Players investigate cave systems, recruit allies, and gradually expand to neighboring cities across later installments in the series.
Gameplay
Top-down exploration drives the experience, with turn-based combat, character stats, inventory management, and dialogue with townsfolk. The trilogy structure means saved progress and themes carry forward into Yipe II and Yipe III.
Tone
Despite the dungeon-crawl skeleton, Quest Of Yipe leans into self-aware humor. Names, encounter text, and quest hooks read as gentle parody of the genre rather than straight-faced fantasy.
Distribution
Released as classic Mac shareware under the Yipe! Software banner, the game ran on 68k and PowerPC Macs of the System 7 era and circulated through the usual Info-Mac and user-group channels of the mid-1990s.
