Yipe! III v1.3 is an adventure and roleplaying game for the classic Mac, the third entry in Kev's long-running Yipe! series. Players fight monsters, gather treasure, and work toward saving the town across a tile-based world full of traps, rafts, and a casino tucked into the dungeon.
Adventure with RPG bones
Combat against monsters drives the loop, with treasure as the reward. The game blends straightforward dungeon-crawl encounters with light roleplaying systems for character growth, keeping sessions quick to pick up while still rewarding deeper play.
Special abilities and stealth
Characters learn special abilities such as backstab and invisibility, opening up tactical options beyond direct fighting. Choosing when to strike from hiding versus engage openly becomes part of dealing with tougher monsters.
Hazards and traversal
The map is dotted with wall spikes, pits, and other traps that punish careless movement. Rafts let the player cross water to reach secret treasures off the main path, rewarding exploration and observation.
Player-extensible monsters
A standout feature lets players distribute their own monster files, so the community could share new creature sets long after the original release. The new and improved casino in the third game adds a side diversion between adventures. Yipe! III requires 256 colors and System 7.0.1 or later.
