About

QuickTile is a Mahjongg-style tile-matching shareware puzzle for the Classic Mac OS, distributed via Info-Mac in the late 1990s by madams@bga.com. Its twist over traditional Mahjongg is that every tile face is a small looping animation, so the board is in constant motion as the player clears matched pairs from the stack.

Gameplay

Standard Mahjongg-solitaire rules apply: identify two free tiles whose animated faces match, click to remove them, and work down through the layered layout until the board is empty or no more matches are available. Difficulty scales with the chosen board layout rather than a timer.

Animated tile sets

The free trial ships with four animated tile sets ranging from waving flags and skittering insects to spinning 3D numerals and a full-size video clip whose frames spread across the active tile faces. Removing tiles literally reveals more of the underlying motion clip, a trick uncommon in mid-1990s solitaires.

Trial vs registered

The trial includes 4 tile sets and 5 board layouts of varying difficulty. Registering for $15 unlocks the full package of 11 tile sets and 25 board layouts, expanding both visual variety and solving challenge significantly.

System requirements

Runs on Power Macintosh or 68K hardware (a 68040 is recommended for smooth tile animation), needs System 7.0 or later, and asks for roughly 3 MB of free RAM. Distributed as a BinHex'd Stuffit archive on Info-Mac as quick-tile-10.hqx.
