Island Defender 2.0 is a HyperCard target-shooting game by Bruce A. Pokras, copyright 1993 and 1997, in which the player mans a mortar inside a volcano and tries to sink enemy ships circling the island. The first version was picked up as a Software of the Month Club selection, and version 2 folds in feedback from registered users.
Gameplay
An electronic targeting scope gives 360-degree coverage of the surrounding ocean. You set the angle, click FIRE!, and watch the mortar shell arc toward the target across four difficulty levels of progressively smaller ships - and miss too many times and the enemy starts insulting you.
What's new in 2.0
A new Practice mode overlays a grid on both the shooting area and the target scope to make learning the aim easier, and an Easy game lets players aim the mortar in a more intuitive fashion.
Requirements and licensing
Requires HyperCard Player 2.1 or higher. Distributed as $5 shareware via Kagi.
