Elephant Rescue is a whimsical HyperCard target game by azwald in which the player clears a forest of evil animals while sparing the good ones. Distributed as freeware, it is pitched as a light, all-ages diversion built on top of HyperCard 2.3 and runnable on any reasonably modern classic Mac.
A target game in the forest
The premise is straightforward: evil animals are loose in the forest and your job is to rid the area of them while leaving the good ones unharmed. The challenge lies in identifying and aiming at the right creatures rather than spraying the screen.
Built in HyperCard
The game is delivered as a HyperCard stack and needs HyperCard 2.3 or the matching HyperCard Player to launch. That choice keeps the file small and makes it easy to inspect or modify in the spirit of the era's many HyperCard hobby titles.
Family-friendly design
The author describes Elephant Rescue as a fun game for players of any age, and the protect-the-good-animals premise is gentler than most contemporary shareware action stacks, suiting younger players or family use.
System requirements
Recommended hardware is a 68030 or faster CPU, with PowerPC preferred, plus System 7 or greater and at least 2 MB of free RAM. HyperCard 2.3 (or the equivalent Player) is required to open the stack.
Freeware and CD-friendly
Elephant Rescue is freeware, with no shareware fee attached. Inclusion on CD-ROM compilations is explicitly permitted by the author, which is how the stack circulated through Info-Mac and similar collections.
