About

Qrax (a.k.a. Prometheus) is a 1997 Mac arcade game by Quarter Note Software in the Qix tradition. You steer a small node around a rectangular playfield, drawing lines to claim territory while avoiding patrolling Sparx and the bouncing Firestix that ricochet through the unclaimed area.

Capture the playfield

Each level is won by enclosing enough of the open area to corner the Firestix into a shrinking pen. Lines drawn slowly score more area; lines drawn fast finish quicker but are worth less, so the risk-reward of running across the field is the core decision on every move.

Sparx and Firestix

Sparx prowl along the edges and any line you have already completed, forcing you to keep moving along your own borders. The Firestix glance off walls inside the open area and will end your run instantly if they touch your in-progress line, which encourages short, segmented draws.

Prometheus Pro and two-player mode

Registering the shareware unlocks Prometheus Pro, which adds power-ups, alternative win conditions, and additional enemy variants beyond the basic Sparx and Firestix. A separate "Prometheus & Atlas" mode supports two players cooperating or competing on the same Mac.

System requirements

Qrax targets 68k and PowerPC Macs running System 7.0 through Mac OS 9, well within the comfort zone of mid-1990s emulation under Basilisk II or SheepShaver. Registration codes are entered inside the program rather than via a separate keygen file.
