Klondike is the original solitaire game for the Macintosh, written by Michael A. Casteel and dating back to 1984. Despite the name, the package bundles five different solitaire variants: Klondike, Canfield, Golf, Racing Demons, and FreeCell, all rendered in classic black-and-white Mac style.
Five solitaires
The application offers Klondike alongside Canfield, Golf, Racing Demons, and FreeCell, each presented with the same crisp 1-bit card faces and direct-manipulation drag interface that defined early Mac casual games.
Historical significance
As one of the earliest solitaire programs written for the Macintosh, Casteel's Klondike predates Microsoft's Windows Solitaire by several years and helped establish the genre as a Mac staple long before Apple bundled card games of its own.
Compatibility
The 1984 build runs on early System software and remains compatible with later 68k Mac OS releases, making it well suited to vintage hardware and Mini vMac-style emulators.
